Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common virus that infects people of all ages and is not harmful to most people. CMV spreads from person to person through bodily fluids.

Sometimes a pregnant woman will pass CMV to her baby during pregnancy. This is called congenital CMV (cCMV). cCMV can cause serious health problems like damage to the baby's brain, eyes, and hearing.
