***SCAM ALERT***
The Polk County Sheriff's Office Communications Center has reported a large increase in recent scam attempts regarding law enforcement issues. The scammers are identifying themselves as Polk County Sheriff’s Office employees.
Please remember, Law enforcement agencies will never request payment over the phone to avoid arrest, cancel a warrant, or make threats if action is not taken. We will also never request payment in the form of gift cards, prepaid cards, or cryptocurrency.
If you receive a call making this type of request, simply refuse and hang up. (No report necessary) If you fall victim to these types of scams, or have already, please call your local law enforcement agency to file a police report.

Last week, PCSO assisted with the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Iowa. Our staff escorted the torch from the DPS building in Downtown Des Moines all the way up to Hilton Coliseum in Ames!
Additionally, we were incredibly honored and humbled to be awarded the LETR (Law Enforcement Torch Run) Outstanding Agency of the Year Award by Special Olympics Iowa!
This prestigious award recognizes law enforcement agencies that go above and beyond their daily duties to champion inclusion, acceptance, and empowerment for Special Olympics Iowa athletes.
Our deputies, staff, and volunteers don’t just serve our community—they pour their hearts into supporting these incredible athletes. Whether we are running the torch, volunteering at events, or raising awareness, we believe that inclusion makes our community stronger.
A massive thank you to Special Olympics Iowa for this incredible recognition and for the continued partnership between our agencies. Above all else, we are proud to stand alongside the amazing Special Olympics Iowa athletes!
