Welcome to the official page of the Iowa Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau. This is the official page of the Iowa Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau.
Our vision is for Iowa to be a place where motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists share the safest roads in the nation. The purpose of this page is to provide news and general information about Iowa GTSB and traffic safety efforts to the public. Each state is required to have a highway safety program directed by guidelines of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). GTSB is a bure
au housed within the Iowa Department of Public Safety and fulfills this requirement. REMINDER: This page is NOT an emergency response page. If you have an emergency, please call 911. Although GTSB is embedded within the Iowa Department of Public Safety, it takes many agencies and organizations working together to reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries caused by crashes on Iowa roads. Only through ongoing collaborative partnerships can a difference be made. GTSB works with various partners such as law enforcement agencies, educators, engineers, emergency services, media, and more to lower the rate of death and injury on Iowa roads. The Iowa GTSB page is not the appropriate venue to make complaints about individuals, businesses or organizations, Iowa GTSB, or otherwise. This site does not accept request for public information under Iowa Open Records Statutes. Instead, please use our resources and guidelines at the bottom of the page. This is an open forum, and Iowa GTSB welcomes your participation. Keep in mind this is a family-friendly page, so please keep comments and wall posts clean. We ask that you follow our page guidelines. We do not discriminate against any views but will remove any posts that violate the guidelines listed below:
- You participate at your own risk, taking personal responsibility for your comments, your username, and any information provided. Users who repeatedly violate the guidelines may be blocked from the Iowa GTSB page.

Iowa's Drug Recognition Experts are highly skilled and extensively trained to identify drug impaired drivers. We recognized several DRE's at our annual conference who have gone above and beyond both in the classroom and in the field. Thanks to their knowledge and dedication, every evaluation and every interaction is a step towards safer roads and safer drivers in Iowa.
Join us in thanking these DRE's for their hard work! π

Whether you're packing the car for a camping trip or loading up the truck for a summer DIY project, be sure your cargo is secure (and flagged if it extends over 4 feet) before you hit the road.

Remember: If you wouldn't feel safe driving behind another car with that same load, it's probably a sign to downsize and add security measures.

Coming soon to an event near youπ
GTSB and the Iowa State Patrol are excited to reveal our new Rollover Simulator! This simulator is a unique traveling educational tool that replicates the dynamics of a rollover scenario in a real car in real time. Capable of rolling at various speeds and complete with life-size dummies, this simulator shows how wearing a seatbelt can drastically change the outcome of a crash.
