Rainbow Village Academy Summer Camp Recap: Building Our Village 🏘️

Rainbow Village campers kicked off the summer by learning what it takes to build a strong community through teamwork, leadership, creativity, and problem-solving.

🏡 Campers designed neighborhoods, community spaces, and villages, while our teens took on the role of city planners by creating important places such as schools, hospitals, housing, transportation systems, and more.
💰 Students also explored financial literacy and learned how smart choices help communities grow and thrive.
☀️ To close out the week, campers created Summer Bucket Lists filled with goals, adventures, and experiences they hope to accomplish this summer.

Did you know that Gwinnett Parks and Recreation works with volunteers in their community gardens to help grow and produce food that is donated to local food pantries?

Earlier this month, Community Engagement Coordinator Brittany Lowe spent the day volunteering with Gwinnett Young Professionals and Live Healthy Gwinnett / Harvest Gwinnett at Graves Park Community Garden. While there, the group built raised garden beds, pruned, supported climbing tomato plants, and harvested onions from the garden that went to our friends at Neighborhood Cooperative Ministries.

The teens and tweens of Rainbow Village recently created Trading Cards representing their strengths, goals, personality, and future aspirations. It proved a fun and creative way for our Academy students to build confidence, practice self-expression, and personal branding skills!

Special shoutout to Coleman Middle School for donating fresh vegetables from their on-campus garden to our Academy! The students had the opportunity to wash, clean, cut, and prepare the vegetables while learning about the different types of lettuce and tasting them throughout the activity. During the salad activity, Olivia also came in to demonstrate how to properly cut a head of lettuce. It was such a fun and educational hands-on experience for the kids!
