Juneteenth, a monumental American holiday is observed on June 19 to mark the end of slavery in 1865. Although the Emancipation Proclamation was announced in 1863, it took more than two years and the continuation of the Civil War before slavery officially ended in all Confederate states on June 19, 1865.
Most City offices are closed in observance of the holiday.
Join us noon to 4 p.m. at Centennial Lakes Park to celebrate this important milestone in our country’s history. This family-friendly event will feature activities, musical performances, special speakers and food vendors for the whole family to enjoy. Admission is free and welcome to all.
