The El Paso Fire Department stands in mourning with our brothers and sisters at the City of Odessa Fire Rescue as we honor the life, service, and sacrifice of Lieutenant Isai Huerta, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty.

“Moments like these remind us that while we wear different patches, we are all part of the same fire service family. When one department suffers a loss, departments across Texas and across the nation stand beside them.”
— EPFD Fire Chief Jonathan Killings

Our thoughts and prayers are with Lt. Huerta’s family, friends, and the entire Odessa Fire Rescue family during this difficult time. Rest easy Lieutenant, we’ll take it from here.

Yesterday, the El Paso Fire Department, in partnership with Marathon Petroleum, proudly celebrated our new Training & Joint Special Operations Prop; a major investment in the future of emergency response training.

Made possible through an incredibly generous $50,000 grant from Marathon Petroleum, this training prop will enhance advanced rescue, firefighting, and industrial emergency response capabilities for years to come.

Designed to provide realistic, high-value training environments, the facility supports confined-space rescue, rope rescue, industrial rescue operations, fireground operations, and joint-agency exercises.

Beyond benefiting El Paso Fire and Marathon personnel, this training resource will also serve emergency response partners from across the region, strengthening collaboration, preparedness, and operational excellence.

We are grateful for this partnership and the shared commitment to keeping our communities and industries safe.

This week, our yellow helmets at Station 5 learned a hard but necessary truth of the fire service: Hope is not a rescue plan. 📋

Crews drilled the Nance Rescue, building the skills, confidence, and mindset needed when one of our own is trapped below the fire. 👨🏻‍🚒

The fireground doesn’t care if you’re ready, but we do. We train for the worst day of our careers so we’re ready for anything that comes our way. 💪🏼

We are grateful for their partnership, professionalism, and dedication to keeping our region connected to lifesaving services. Thank you for all that you do! 👏🏻

This weekend, in partnership with Powerhouse Gym, EPFD proudly hosted 🔥FIREROX, a HYROX-style challenge designed to test strength, endurance, and grit. 🏃🏻‍♂️💨

Our firefighters and recruiters built a course packed with functional fitness stations, giving participants a chance to push their limits and experience the demands of the job firsthand. 🏋🏻‍♂️

A huge shoutout to all the incredible athletes who stepped up, embraced the challenge, and crushed the course. 🙌🏻

Firefighting is a selfless profession. When a firefighter goes down, it’s more than just a training scenario, it’s someone’s brother, sister, parent, child, or friend who needs help. 👨🏻‍🚒

That’s why our crews train Mayday drills, pushing themselves through limited visibility, confined spaces, entanglements, and countless obstacles that can stand between them and a firefighter in need.

A firefighter down is everyone’s emergency. No matter the conditions, no matter the obstacles, and no matter how difficult the environment, no one gets left behind.

We train hard because lives depend on it. We stay ready because families expect us home. We never forget that behind every helmet is a person willing to risk everything for others. 💪🏼

Train hard. Stay ready. Bring everyone home.🔥

It’s move in day! 🚒

Today, for the first time since the renovations, crews raised the flag over Central Fire Station once again. 🇺🇸

Central is where our department began. For generations, it has stood at the heart of our mission, our history, and our service to the community. Raising the flag today wasn’t just a sign of reopening, it was a return home. 🏡

A proud moment honoring our past and carrying our legacy into the future. 🚒
