Button Gwinnett, one of Georgia's three signers of the Declaration of Independence, has one of the rarest autographs in American history. Because he died less than a year after signing the Declaration, only a small number of his signatures survive today.

Nearly 250 years later, his name lives on through Gwinnett County and his lasting contribution to America's founding.

Georgia was the youngest of the original 13 colonies when the American Revolution began. Yet when the time came to choose independence, Georgians stepped forward to help shape the future of a new nation.

Among them were Georgia's three signers of the Declaration of Independence—Button Gwinnett, Lyman Hall, and George Walton—whose names remain forever linked to America's founding. We will talk more about these three Georgians later in our America250 campaign!

⚔️ On June 17, 1775, Citizen-Soldiers stood their ground at the Battle of Bunker Hill.

Though the battle ended in a British victory, the determination shown by American forces proved that ordinary citizens were willing to fight for the cause of liberty.

Their courage helped inspire a nation.

🇺🇸 Today, we honor their sacrifice and the enduring spirit of service they represent.
