On Tuesday night, crews from Lafayette, Louisville, and Mountain View Fire responded to a reported structure fire near Hwy 287 & Arapahoe. It turned out to be a grass fire. Firefighters quickly knocked it down before it could spread to nearby homes. Great teamwork!

"Mayday, Mayday, Mayday."

They are the words no firefighter ever wants to hear over the radio. But when that call goes out, rapid, efficient action is everything.

This past week, crews from the Boulder Valley Fire Consortium teamed up for a vital multi-agency training in Boulder. By utilizing a building slated for demolition, these firefighters got a valuable opportunity to break away from standard training facilities and test their life-saving skills in an unfamiliar environment.

Every crew and every shift did one hell of a job adapting to the venue, accomplishing their goals, and successfully rescuing their "injured" comrades.

Over the last four months, these 17 fire recruits were pushed to their physical and mental limits. While only a handful of agencies had recruits graduating in Class 26-1, every department within the Front Range Fire Consortium (FRFC) stepped up to help these men and women succeed.

Congratulations on finishing the academy, and more importantly, congratulations on officially becoming firefighters! Good luck in your future endeavors with your respective agencies.

I'll see you out there.

Donate to Support Ken Bradley’s Recovery, organized by Kelly Fischer 05/19/2026

Please share or give if you can. A Colorado hero and his family could use your help.

Ken Bradley is a lieutenant with Berthoud Fire, Colorado and is well-known in the fire community as a dedicated teacher and leader. He and his wife, Carol, have three children, and their family has always been active in supporting others. Now, they are facing an unimaginable challenge.

On Sunday, while driving to work, Ken was critically injured in a head-on collision caused by a vehicle traveling the wrong way in the HOV lane. The accident left Ken with multiple fractures in both legs, fractures to his left arm, a dislocated right shoulder, several broken ribs, a pneumothorax, a significant leg laceration, and a concussion. He has already undergone several surgeries and will need more in the coming days to repair the extensive injuries. Despite the severity of the accident, Ken’s resilience and the support of his family have been remarkable.

Carol and their children are making daily trips from Colorado Springs to Denver to be by Ken’s side. The road to recovery will be long, and the family is facing mounting medical bills, travel expenses, and the challenge of supporting their children during this difficult time. Donations to this fundraiser will help cover medical costs, travel expenses, and provide much-needed support for Carol and the kids as Ken heals.

We are so grateful that Ken survived, but the journey ahead is daunting. Any support for Ken, Carol, and their children is deeply appreciated. Please help this family as they navigate the difficult road ahead.

Last week, firefighters from Boulder Fire-Rescue, Mountain View Fire Rescue, and other local agencies teamed up for an acquired structure training exercise.

The focus? Strengthening commercial fire response. Crews ran full-scale drills practicing:

Arrival reports and command.

Tactical assignments for incoming units.

FDC connections and water supply.

Search in heavy smoke conditions.

This was a great, successful training by Boulder Fire Rescue.
