Our condolences go out to Texas DPS and the family of Trooper Romero. We honor his courage, his service, and his sacrifice.

It is with great sadness that DPS announces the death of Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Sergio Romero.

Trooper Romero was attempting to conduct a traffic stop along US-287 near Childress, around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, when a truck-tractor semi-trailer pulled out in front of him, causing his patrol unit to collide with the vehicle. Trooper Romero died on scene.

Trooper Romero answered the call to serve each day with honor and remained steadfast in his commitment to protecting and serving Texans. The DPS family will never forget the ultimate sacrifice he made in service of this state.

⚠️ SCAM ALERT — PLEASE READ & SHARE

We are receiving multiple reports of a new scam targeting families of individuals in our custody.

In many cases, the caller even references someone who is currently in our jail or was recently booked, making the scam sound convincing.

🔹 TCSO will NEVER call you to demand payment over the phone.
🔹 We do NOT request money through gift cards, payment apps, wire transfers, or phone transactions.
🔹 All legitimate bond information is handled through the courts and licensed bonding companies, not through unsolicited phone calls.

If you receive a call like this:
• Hang up immediately
• Do not provide personal or financial information
• Call your local police department or, if you live in unincorporated Tarrant County, call us at TCSO Dispatch at 817-884-1213

🌿 Fun Fact Friday — Officer Jenkins Edition

This week we’re spotlighting Officer Jenkins, a proud member of our Labor Detail Unit and someone who brings heart, leadership, and creativity to every project she touches.

She has coordinated countless community efforts, but last year she led one of the most meaningful projects in our agency’s history — the restoration of New Trinity Cemetery, the first Black cemetery in Tarrant County and the final resting place of more than 500 Black veterans, including Buffalo Soldiers. Her dedication helped preserve a sacred piece of our county’s history and honor the legacy of those who served.

Today, we’re sharing a few fun facts that show the vibrant personality behind her important work — from peanut butter pretzels to Slytherin pride.
