A major milestone was recently celebrated for the Integrated Pipeline Project with 100 miles of pipeline now installed. TRWD joined Dallas Water Utilities, regional partners, contractors, and project teams in Waxahachie to recognize the collaboration and years of work that continue to move this critical infrastructure project forward.

Now approximately two thirds complete, the Integrated Pipeline Project represents a long-term investment in strengthening water infrastructure and delivering reliable water resources for the growing North Texas region. The event also highlighted the people behind the progress and the teams working every day to help bring this transformative project to life.

While May is typically the wettest month of the year in North Texas, this year’s rainfall totals came in below normal. Even so, localized storms helped generate inflows to TRWD lakes, keeping system storage stable at approximately 89%.

As North Texas moves into the summer season, June could still bring opportunities for additional rainfall across the region. Current forecasts suggest near to slightly above normal precipitation early in the month, though warmer temperatures and evaporation may impact reservoir levels as summer heat increases. As National Wetlands Month comes to a close, TRWD is also looking toward the future of water sustainability in North Texas. In January 2025, TRWD honored former Board Director Martha “Marty” V. Leonard by naming the Cedar Creek Wetlands Project in her honor. A lifelong conservationist, nature lover, and advocate for sustainability, Marty Leonard was instrumental in championing wetlands as a natural solution for protecting and extending the region’s water supply.

During her 17 years of service on the TRWD Board of Directors, Marty helped guide environmental stewardship efforts that continue to shape the District today. She believed deeply in conservation, collaboration, and planning for the future of water management in North Texas. The future Marty Leonard Wetlands Project will continue that vision by using natural solutions to support water quality, sustainability, and reliable water supply planning for future generations.

Thank you, Marty Leonard, for your leadership, stewardship, and lasting impact on our community and water resources.

National Wetlands Month is also an opportunity to recognize the TRWD teams who help protect, manage, and educate the public about these important spaces. Environmental professionals, watershed experts, educators, park staff, operations crews, and maintenance teams all play an important role in caring for spaces like the George W. Shannon Wetlands and TRWD’s Fort Worth campus wetlands. Together, their work helps preserve these natural systems while protecting water quality, supporting wildlife habitat, and educating the public about the value of wetlands.

Thank you to the TRWD staff dedicated to preserving and protecting these valuable natural resources.
