Farrington Field is the hallowed site of high school sports and events of the past. However, it also contains one of the largest public art installations by Fort Worth-born artist Evaline Sellors. High above the entrance are two bas-relief sculptures, each over 8 feet tall. Sellors was a successful local artist creating, exhibiting and teaching art for over seventy years. Her work is visible in other prominent locations in Fort Worth such as at the Hayne Memorial Triangle Park, the Botanic Garden and Pioneers Rest Cemetery.

Major Ripley Arnold led Company F, Second Dragoons troops north from Fort Graham on May 15, 1849, following orders to select a location for a military installment along the Trinity River as part of a line of forts established for the purpose of defending white settlers from Native Americans to the southwest. The camp was initially located in the river bottom, where access to water was convenient. They moved to the bluff by June 6, 1849, when the post was named for Major General William Jenkins Worth, who had recently succumbed to cholera in San Antonio a month prior.
This is a reproduction of a map held by the National Archives and Records Administration depicting the layout of the fort.
