Meet Our Staff: Yesika Moncada, LCSW
Tell us about your job. I'm a mental health therapist and I help clients navigate traumatic experiences. I am a psychoeducator and a parent/child emotional liaison. I work at Lena Pope's north campus in Roanoke, TX.
What’s your favorite part of your job? What I love most about my job is witnessing personal growth and authenticity. I love seeing people embrace who they truly are, grow into themselves, and live more authentic, fulfilling lives.
What made you choose to work at Lena Pope? Lena Pope's mission to provide support to those that have limited access to services.
What about your clients inspires you most? My client's inspire me in their courage to be seen and heard in therapy.
What is an ability you wish you had? I wish I had the skills and creativity to cook! Or at least the desire.
What would you do for a career if you weren't doing this? I would imagine something creative like photography, interior design, or my other passion of dancing!
Tell us something that might surprise us about you: I don't know if this is surprising but I was a Junior and Senior Drum Major in my highschool marching band!

June is Internet Safety Month and with more downtime and screen time in the summer, it is an important reminder to check in on your family’s online habits. Here are a few simple ways you can help keep your kids safe and supported online.
Establish safeguards: Check device settings, consider limiting online play or chats, maintain open communication with your child, and seek help if you notice something seems off.
Maintain boundaries: Establish rules like screens after reading and outside play, no devices during meals, or digital curfew is 10pm. Consistent boundaries are helpful for the whole family to follow.
Monitor Content: Keeping devices in common spaces, like a living room instead of bedrooms, allows you to see what content is on their screens and monitor as you pass by.
Engage with your child on screens: Spend a few minutes playing a game your child enjoys or have conversations about what they're playing. They may seem hesitant to share at first, but continue showing an interest and it can be something you connect over.

✨Ready for kindergarten and beyond🚀
Lena Pope's NAEYC accredited Early Learning Centers celebrated the most adorable graduation for 43 pre-k graduates. The room was filled with future scuba divers, doctors, chefs, space guys, cheerleaders, police officers, scientists, princesses, gymnasts, and several super heroes.
At our Early Learning Centers, 188 children ages 6 weeks–5 years learn and grow through play and exploration. We use highly researched curricula (HighScope and Conscious Discipline), offer low student-to-teacher ratios, and provide tuition support based on family income and accept state scholarships. Our ELCs support families through all the milestones that children experience in their first 5 years.
Want to help more future scuba divers and scientists thrive? Make a gift to support Lena Pope's services. Your gift ensures families of all income levels can access individualized care for their children at a high-quality early learning center: https://na2.hubs.ly/H062gXr0

Throughout Mental Health Awareness Month, our community came together to support children and families across North Texas.
Because of your generosity, more families will have access to counseling, guidance, and support when they need it most. More children will have the opportunity to build healthy coping skills. More parents will gain tools to strengthen communication and connection at home.
These are the moments that matter.
A child feels safe enough to talk for the first time. A parent learns a new way to respond. A family begins to rebuild trust and move forward together after addressing complex trauma.
Thank you for believing that every child and family deserves access to the support they need.
We are grateful for your partnership and the difference you make every day.

A big thank you to our friends and neighbors at Central Market for bringing a fun and flavorful experience to our Early Learning Center students! Students had the chance to sample unique fruits like Hunnyz apples, mangoes, dragon fruit, and blood oranges, and even take additional fruits home to try with their families. We appreciate your partnership and for helping make nutrition both exciting and educational for our students!

Mental Health Awareness Month is almost over, but the need for counseling and support continues every day.
Right now, every gift made through May 31 will be matched dollar for dollar thanks to a group of Lena Pope Board Members.
Your support helps remove barriers to care and create moments that truly matter — moments when children begin to open up for the first time, families reconnect and break cycles of abuse, and healing can begin.
There’s still time to help more children and families access mental health care regardless of their ability to pay.
