Happy Father's Day to all the dads and a special nod to the ones who taught the next generation to work the land and care for every drop it takes, leaving the ground and the water better than they found it. Today is yours. (And happy Summer Solstice, while we're at it!)

A little piece of Tuscany in the heart of Mendota. As part of the International Year of the Woman Farmer, meet Angie Cardella Meisner of Cardella Winery and Cardella Ranch, where family, farming, food, and stewardship come together in California's Central Valley. In her own words, Angie takes on the realities of growing food today, from the challenges growers navigate to why water makes everything possible, and the misconceptions she wishes more people understood.

Their sacrifice is woven into every harvest on the west side. Our office is closed today and will open tomorrow.
