Veterans Home of California - Fresno

We all know how hot it has been lately. So last week our staff took a group of veterans from our skilled nursing unit to Pismo Beach for a day of fun in the sun. They spent their time strolling around the pier, enjoyIng the cool beach weather and even had lobster rolls for lunch. It was a nice escape from the heat.

Nothing says Father’s Day like a Western style barbecue. Residents in the Skilled Nursing Unit at the Veterans Home of California-Fresno, enjoyed barbecue ribs with delicious sides as part of their Father’s Day celebration. They also enjoyed an ice cold beer to wash it all down. They play a Father’s Day trivia game and even had a raffle. On behalf of everyone at the Fresno Home we wish everyone a wonderful Father’s Day.

Artist Pamela Alderman visited the Veterans Home of California-Fresno, to host a special project with our residents. She brought paint and clear tiles for them to create Patriotic images. She is then going to put the tiles together in one large frame to display at the Home to commemorate the nations 250th birthday. It was a unique event for residents from all levels of care. We are looking forward to seeing the project come together.

We celebrated Father’s Day a few days early at the Veterans Home of California-Fresno with a Brews & Bites event. Our veterans enjoyed pub food along with their favorite beer or wine and we even raffled off some gift cards to a few lucky residents. To all the dads out there, Happy Father’s Day!

To celebrate the 251st Birthday of the United States Army, the Central California Veterans Home Support Foundation brought cakes for our residents at the Veterans Home of California-Fresno to enjoy. Our veterans love cake. Only problem is they have to choose between white or chocolate.

In honor of Mother’s Day, the Activities Team at the veterans Home of California-Fresno hosted a lovely brunch for our ladies. They enjoyed delicious food, sipped sparkling cider, created floral arrangements, and received some cosmetics. We hope everyone had a blessed Mother’s Day and felt special.

We are so grateful to Central Valley Honor Flight for taking four of our veterans on a trip of a lifetime. This is the first time we’ve sent four on an Honor Flight trip. They all came back from the from this experience filled memories and joy! From everyone at the Veterans Home of California-Fresno, thank you!

We are sending a big thank you to the organization Make A Difference Outdoors for treating the residents of the Veterans Home of California-Fresno to another spectacular fishing outing! They greet us with donuts, provide all the fishing gear and when we were done, served some delicious barbecue burgers and hot dogs. This is definitely one our favorite outings!

It was a glorious day at the Veterans Home of California-Fresno as residents, staff and their families gathered for the annual Easter Celebration! More than 50 children of all ages enjoyed face painting, Easter crafts, a magic show and of course an Easter Egg Hunt. The Master Gardeners set up a planting station where kids planted plants and decorated the pots. We also had a group of Assisteens, these are high school volunteers, come and help us out with the event. Our veterans love this celebration and look forward to it every year. They sit, side by side with the kids doing crafts and enjoying the magic show. We even had a special visit from the Easter bunny horse. From everyone at the Fresno Home, have a blessed Easter.
