Ben has too much time on his hands

Some days I just need to stay off the internet. According to the National Weather Service some of us might get hail, which let’s be honest 3-4 inches is nothing to laugh about and others might get pinkeye.

I have close to zero information on what’s happening at this location except for what I was told by an employee. They reached out because I guess they confused my page for a useful page….so here I am. I guess. Anyway.

Apparently the workers have complained about unsafe working conditions such as not enough people working at closing time, not enough people scheduled to handle a shift and other actual safety issues but are being told by managers to just shut up and do the job.

See, that upsets me because each time I’ve gone to this place, the workers were just as nice as they could be. Sure it took them 20 minutes to get my order out but that’s understandable if only 2 people are running the entire place.

Full disclosure. I don’t know what you all or I can do. Not even sure what Burger King corporate can do. I just know that the building is literally falling apart and the workers are being threatened to stay quiet or lose their job. That’s just a sh*tty thing to do to others. So maybe someone out there knows more and wants to say something. Maybe someone at corporate cares enough to get involved. I don’t know. I just know that this isn’t a way to treat people and not expect for consequences to not find you.

Full disclosure. This afternoon you’re going to see a post from me about a situation I know nothing about and people that I don’t know. Oh and the post is about problems I don’t fully understand.

I’m only sharing that post with you all because someone got confused and thought I could help but more importantly I’m sharing the post because if there’s a chance for me to stir the pot on something…..oh you know I’m in.

I went to Rotolo's Craft & Crust - Conway, AR and left disappointed. Here’s what happened.

I walked in, put my name on a 15 minute waiting list, asked for an outside table so that I don’t cut glass with my man nips, took a seat in the waiting area and in about 10 minutes or so I got a text that my table was ready. Nobody called my name. Nobody said “Ben. Lonely party of one because he has no friends. Ben?!?!” Nope. Instead I had to wait another 10 minutes or so for everyone waiting to check in to go through, hop in that line and tell them I got a text. I followed the hostess and got an inside table right under the A/C vent. I was shivering but held back tears for fear they would freeze.

My waitress came and absolutely everything changed. She was fast. She was nice. She even did a really convincing fake laugh when I asked if she had another straw because the first one she gave me had a hole in it.

As for the food, here’s my honest and personal take. This is based off my tastebuds and I’m sure yours are superior. The bo***ir fries were really good. Melt in your mouth great flavor. The chicken popper calzone was good too. Chicken cooked perfectly and a bit spicy but then again I think catsup is spicy. Their pepperoni pizza was basically gas station pizza. Great dough that was nice and crispy but very little sauce and the pepperoni was the very tiny kind that curl up when cooked and it honestly tasted like something that you’d find in a gas station.

Here’s the thing though. The entire experience left me disappointed. No not in the restaurant or staff because sure they had some things to work out but they’re small things. It left me disappointed in the rest of the restaurants that hide behind the “we just opened. You shouldn’t expect good service and edible food”. This place proves that not everything can be perfect but enough can be right that you can go on and improve on the rest.

I’m gonna go back to try some of their funky pizzas and yeah I’m going back for those fries.

Monday is here and it starts my birthday week. That’s right. I’m starting off the celebrations with trying to convince this tiny yet mighty house guardian to p*e out in the rain instead of on my floor.

Oh if only 16 year old me could see how cool I am right now. Standing on the front porch yelling “Go potty!!!!! I’ll give you bacon if you p*e!!!!” So cool.

Anyway, if you see me around town this week, come say hello and remember that I like biscuits and cookies.

I almost had a medical emergency.

My eagle eyed vision spotted something from many many feet away that doesn’t belong on the carpet. If you find it please don’t give it away for the rest. It was reported to housekeeping.

You know what they say “If it wasn’t for bad luck, I’d have only good luck”.

Sometimes when I make my original review on a place, down the line some things turn out to be incorrect. That’s the case with Big Bad Breakfast. Originally I said something like “with time they will improve”. That was proven to be wrong for us.

We went back and the food wasn’t bad. Not good to where I’d want to go back though. Have you ever eaten at a place where you just go “yeah not my favorite or even top 100 meals of the week but I’d eat this over tree bark but just barely”. That’s basically it. Food. Not overly delicious or good tasting food but food.

I had really high hopes for this place when I first heard they were coming to town. The decor is really nice and feels like you’re stepping into your grandmas kitchen but your grandma can’t cook and thinks stale gas station biscuits are a delicacy.

Did you know that chocolate gravy was originally created as punishment for prisoners? It’s true, look it up.

Sooooooo as a sponsor of the page, I think I just talked Genesis of Conway into giving me their corporate card so I can spend $$ on delicious gluttony. If the first event goes really well, I think I can get them to do it again and each time in a new city.

Here’s the plan. Your help is needed in tagging every food truck/trailer you know in Russellville. It’s an area I don’t go in as often as Conway or Little Rock but want to learn more about their food scene.

The plan is that I’ll pick a spot from your recommendations and on a random afternoon/evening this month, I’ll show up with their card and pay for everyone’s food. I’ll make sure to give everyone plenty of heads up notice when I’m headed that way. Then afterwards like a fat Batman I’ll jump in their car and drive away.
