**District 1 Community Conversations & Resident-Generated Ideas to Support Garland**
Over the past few weeks, I have heard thoughtful ideas from residents, neighborhoods, nonprofits, community groups, and local businesses about how we can work together to support Garland and help make our city an even better place to live, work, play, and invest.
A few common themes have included:
✅ **Fiscal Responsibility**
Residents want to better understand Garland’s financial challenges and explore practical, responsible ways to support long-term stability while protecting core services and quality of life.
✅ **Supporting Garland Businesses**
Many residents discussed encouraging a “Shop Garland First” mindset so more local dollars stay in Garland and support local businesses, jobs, city services, and our overall quality of life.
✅ **Strengthening Downtown Garland and Firewheel**
Downtown deserves continued focus, and Firewheel also deserves continued community support so it stays strong and competitive. Both areas play an important role in Garland’s future growth, activity, and investment.
✅ **Keeping Firewheel and District 1 Active**
Residents shared community-led ideas such as family-friendly events, neighborhood activities, and visitor-focused opportunities that could help support local restaurants, hotels, retail, and small businesses.
✅ **Better Coordination Around Events and Attractions**
Residents suggested stronger community coordination between events, hotels, restaurants, local shops, and attractions so visitors have more reasons to stay, spend, and return to Garland.
✅ **Expanding Community Partnerships**
Residents also discussed exploring partnerships with nonprofits, GISD, community groups, businesses, and local venues such as the Curtis Culwell Center to bring more diverse events and positive activity to Garland.
✅ **Health and Wellness**
Residents raised ideas about health prevention, wellness education, and ways Garland could better support residents who face barriers to healthcare access through community partnerships, education efforts, or advisory opportunities.
✅ **Parks and Community Facilities**
Some residents discussed whether community partnerships, nonprofit support, volunteer efforts, or fundraising efforts could help support aging parks and facilities that continue to have value for neighborhoods and families.
✅ **Neighborhood Safety and Quality of Life**
Residents also discussed the value of neighborhood-level engagement, including crime watch groups, HOA involvement, and stronger communication between residents and public safety partners.
These are early community conversations and resident-generated ideas. They are not final decisions, promises, Council direction, or requests for City staff resources.
My role is to listen, learn, ask thoughtful questions, and help connect residents, community organizations, nonprofits, neighborhoods, and businesses where appropriate so we can better understand what is realistic, responsible, and beneficial for Garland.

Cư dân muốn hiểu rõ hơn về những thách thức tài chính của Garland và cùng tìm hiểu những cách thực tế, có trách nhiệm để hỗ trợ sự ổn định lâu dài, đồng thời bảo vệ các dịch vụ cốt lõi và phẩm chất đời sống.
✅ **Hỗ Trợ Doanh Nghiệp Garland**
Nhiều cư dân đã thảo luận về việc khuyến khích tinh thần “Ưu Tiên Mua Sắm Tại Garland” để nhiều đồng tiền hơn được giữ lại trong Garland và hỗ trợ doanh nghiệp địa phương, việc làm, dịch vụ thành phố, và phẩm chất đời sống chung của chúng ta.
✅ **Tăng Cường Downtown Garland và Firewheel**

**Conversaciones Comunitarias del Distrito 1 e Ideas Generadas por los Residentes para Apoyar a Garland**
Durante las últimas semanas, he escuchado ideas muy valiosas de residentes, vecindarios, organizaciones sin fines de lucro, grupos comunitarios y negocios locales sobre cómo podemos trabajar juntos para apoyar a Garland y ayudar a que nuestra ciudad sea un lugar aún mejor para vivir, trabajar, disfrutar e invertir.

✅ **Responsabilidad Fiscal**
Los residentes quieren entender mejor los desafíos financieros de Garland y explorar maneras prácticas y responsables de apoyar la estabilidad a largo plazo, al mismo tiempo que se protegen los servicios esenciales y la calidad de vida.
