The Garland Library Board received several exciting updates on library projects and programs across our city. Hereโs what you need to know:
๐๏ธ North Garland Library Renovation Update
The North Garland Library project is officially moving forward!
โ
The project has been opened for bids and several proposals were received.
โ
A contractor has been selected by the Project Management Office and Purchasing Department.
๐ง Construction is expected to begin this week (June 9).
๐
Work will continue through most of the 2nd and 3rd quarters.
๐ A grand re-opening is currently planned for late in the 3rd quarter!
๐๏ธ South Garland Library Project Update:
Big improvements are also on the horizon for South Garland Library!
๐ The project is currently in the design phase, with Phases 1 and 2 under review for budget approval at the June Council meeting. ๐
๐๐ถ 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program:
Helping our youngest readers build a lifelong love of learning!
โญ Designed for children ages 0โ5.
๐ The goal is to read 1,000 books before starting kindergarten.
The new milestone system includes:
๐ Phase 1: 250 books
๐ Phase 2: 500 books
๐ Phase 3: 750 books
๐ Complete 1,000 books and participate in a graduation celebration!
โ๏ธ๐ 2026 Summer Reading Program
The summer reading season is off to an incredible start!
๐ The program kicked off on May 30 with approximately 1,400 attendees.
๐ฆด This yearโs national theme is โUnearth a Story.โ
๐ Garlandโs Club Curiosity is now in its second year.
-Open to children from birth through the teen years.
๐
Runs through August 1.
๐ค Garland ISD has partnered with the City to help expand participation.

๐ณGarland Parks and Recreation Update ๐ณ
Hi everyone!
I wanted to share an update from the June Parks & Recreation Board meeting, courtesy of our District 4 representative, Molly Bishop.
๐ Project Updates:
๐ Lou Huff Park: Dirt work is currently underway.
Senior Center: Substantial completion is anticipated by October 2026.
๐ฆ Rick Oden Park: A $3.4 million splash pad project for District 5 is currently in the design phase.
๐ฟ Wynn Joyce Park: Improvement projects for District 3 are ongoing.
District 2 Parks: Work at Quail Creek and James Parks continues to move forward, and the walking trail has now been completed.

Meeting Update: The July Parks & Recreation Board meeting has been canceled due to the holiday schedule.

Summer Nutrition Program Begins TODAY!
Garlandโs recreation centers will distribute free meals to children ages 1-18 and young adults with disabilities from Monday, June 1, through July 31. No registration or proof of income is required.
Meals will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at the following locations:
โข Audubon Recreation Center, 342 W. Oates Road
โข Bradfield Recreation Center, 1146 Castle Drive
โข Fields Recreation Center, 1701 Dairy Road
โข Granger Recreation Center, 1310 W. Avenue F
โข Holford Recreation Center, 2314 Homestead Place
โข Hollabaugh Recreation Center, 3925 W. Walnut St.
Lunches will not be served June 19 or July 3. The program is being overseen by the Garland Independent School District. Learn more:
