📚✨ GARLAND LIBRARY UPDATE ✨📚

The Garland Library Board received several exciting updates on library projects and programs across our city. Here’s what you need to know:

🏗️ North Garland Library Renovation Update
The North Garland Library project is officially moving forward!

✅ The project has been opened for bids and several proposals were received.
✅ A contractor has been selected by the Project Management Office and Purchasing Department.

🚧 Construction is expected to begin this week (June 9).
📅 Work will continue through most of the 2nd and 3rd quarters.
🎉 A grand re-opening is currently planned for late in the 3rd quarter!

🏛️ South Garland Library Project Update:
Big improvements are also on the horizon for South Garland Library!

📐 The project is currently in the design phase, with Phases 1 and 2 under review for budget approval at the June Council meeting. 📝

📖👶 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program:
Helping our youngest readers build a lifelong love of learning!

⭐ Designed for children ages 0–5.
📚 The goal is to read 1,000 books before starting kindergarten.

The new milestone system includes:
📗 Phase 1: 250 books
📘 Phase 2: 500 books
📙 Phase 3: 750 books
🎓 Complete 1,000 books and participate in a graduation celebration!

☀️📚 2026 Summer Reading Program
The summer reading season is off to an incredible start!

🎉 The program kicked off on May 30 with approximately 1,400 attendees.
🦴 This year’s national theme is “Unearth a Story.”
🔎 Garland’s Club Curiosity is now in its second year.
-Open to children from birth through the teen years.
📅 Runs through August 1.
🤝 Garland ISD has partnered with the City to help expand participation.

🌳Garland Parks and Recreation Update 🌳

Hi everyone!

I wanted to share an update from the June Parks & Recreation Board meeting, courtesy of our District 4 representative, Molly Bishop.

📋 Project Updates:

🚜 Lou Huff Park: Dirt work is currently underway.

Senior Center: Substantial completion is anticipated by October 2026.

💦 Rick Oden Park: A $3.4 million splash pad project for District 5 is currently in the design phase.

🌿 Wynn Joyce Park: Improvement projects for District 3 are ongoing.

District 2 Parks: Work at Quail Creek and James Parks continues to move forward, and the walking trail has now been completed.

📅 Meeting Update: The July Parks & Recreation Board meeting has been canceled due to the holiday schedule.

Summer Nutrition Program Begins TODAY!

Garland’s recreation centers will distribute free meals to children ages 1-18 and young adults with disabilities from Monday, June 1, through July 31. No registration or proof of income is required.

Meals will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at the following locations:

• Audubon Recreation Center, 342 W. Oates Road
• Bradfield Recreation Center, 1146 Castle Drive
• Fields Recreation Center, 1701 Dairy Road
• Granger Recreation Center, 1310 W. Avenue F
• Holford Recreation Center, 2314 Homestead Place
• Hollabaugh Recreation Center, 3925 W. Walnut St.

Lunches will not be served June 19 or July 3. The program is being overseen by the Garland Independent School District. Learn more:
