Catalytic converter thefts can happen in just a matter of minutes and often leave vehicle owners with expensive repair bills.

You can help reduce your chances of becoming a victim by:

• Parking in well-lit areas or inside a garage whenever possible
• Parking near building entrances or security cameras
• Installing a catalytic converter anti-theft device
• Having your catalytic converter engraved with your VIN or license plate number
• Being aware of suspicious activity around parked vehicles

If your vehicle suddenly sounds much louder than normal when you start it, your catalytic converter may have been stolen.

If you see suspicious activity or someone tampering with a vehicle, call 911 immediately. Working together, we can help prevent thefts and keep our community safe.

**UPDATE**

All lanes of I-30 have reopened in both directions.

TRAFFIC ALERT – MAJOR CRASH ON I-30

All lanes of Interstate 30 are currently shut down in both directions due to a major crash involving an 18-wheeler.

• Eastbound I-30 is shut down at Bass Pro Drive.
• Westbound I-30 is shut down at Dalrock Road.

Preliminary information indicates a sedan and an 18-wheeler collided while traveling westbound on I-30. The collision caused the 18-wheeler to strike the center concrete barrier. The truck’s cargo crossed into the eastbound lanes, where a vehicle collided with debris from the load.

The eastbound vehicle was occupied by four individuals, including two children. Three occupants were transported to a local hospital.

Significant traffic delays are expected. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

The roadway is expected to remain closed for an extended period while emergency personnel investigate the crash and crews work to clear the scene.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Garland Police Step Up DWI Patrols for Independence Day Holiday

Beginning Friday, June 19 and continuing through Monday, July 6, Garland Police will increase patrols to combat impaired driving during the Independence Day holiday period.

The additional enforcement effort is funded through the Texas Department of Transportation's (TxDOT) Impaired Driving Mobilization (IDM) program and focuses on identifying and removing impaired drivers from the road. Officers will conduct increased evening and nighttime patrols using both marked and unmarked vehicles.

Impaired driving remains a critical issue in Texas. According to TxDOT, 1,053 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes across the state in 2024.

A first-time DWI conviction can result in fines, driver's license suspension, and jail time. The financial impact of a DWI arrest can exceed $17,000 when court costs, legal fees, increased insurance rates, and other expenses are considered.

Garland Police encourage residents to plan ahead before celebrating. Designate a sober driver, use a rideshare service, call a taxi, or arrange for alternative transportation.

The message is simple: Drink. Drive. Go to Jail.

Each academy class completes this run as a reminder of the commitment, courage, and selfless service that define the profession. Class 75 paid tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the Garland community.
