Women Veterans Recognition Day: Why the title matters - VA News Women Veterans Recognition Day is celebrated on June 12th to honor the service and sacrifice of women who have worn the uniform.

Today (June 12) is Women Veterans Day in the United States and we want to honor all the women veterans we have been privileged to know and support through the years at DreamPower Horses for Warriors, and to share our appreciation for the service of all women in the United States Armed Forces throughout history. We are supporting a resolution to address "the disparities in care, recognition and benefits that our women veterans receive" and to "highlight the growing presence of women in the Armed Forces and the National Guard; and pay respect to women veterans for their dutiful military service." Thank you for your service, ma'am!

Today marks the 78th anniversary of the signing of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act into law by President Truman. It enabled women to serve as permanent, regular members of the military. Although Congress had given the Women’s Army Corps full Army status during wartime in 1943, the WAC law was set to expire on June 30, 1948.

DAV strives to ensure women veterans receive the healthcare they’ve earned through their service, including gender specific care that is unique to women veterans. Learn more at womenveterans.org.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6309 Auxiliary needs your help with St Mary's Cemetery.

Every year the Auxiliary places flags at the headstones of all Veterans to honor their service. There are many that are not clearly marked as a Veteran. In order to ensure that no Veteran is left without a flag, the Auxiliary is creating a map.

If you have a loved one who is buried at St Mary's Cemetery, who is a Veteran, please contact Rita Delgado at 408-427-6268.
