Today, County Attorney Abbie Kamin joined community leaders, including Harris County Precinct One Commissioner Rodney Ellis and Congressman Rep. Al Green, for a deeply moving and historic morning in Harris County.

Together, we gathered for the unveiling of lynching markers honoring the victims of racial terror in our county’s history. We were incredibly humbled to be joined by the family members of one of the victims, whose presence served as a powerful reminder of why we must continue to carry their memory forward.

Following vital remarks on the history of enslavement and the absolute necessity of remembrance, a jazz band led a solemn procession to the site of the future Remembrance Park. Once complete, this park will stand as a dedicated public space for reflection, education, and community healing.

We cannot build a just future without courageously confronting and honoring our past. 🖤

The Harris County Attorney’s Office is proud to share this special Juneteenth interview with Andre D. Davison, Director of the Robert W. Hainsworth Law Library.

Hainsworth, a Houston civil rights leader, challenged the segregation of Black attorneys in the 1950s. Taking on the “one-table rule” that restricted Black attorneys to one designated table in the Law Library. While the courts denied his case at the time, his fight paved the way for a more equitable future.

In 2021, the Law Library was renamed in his honor. Today, as Director Davison shares, the Law Library continues to uphold Hainsworth’s vision: a place where everyone has a seat at any table.

Hear more about the library's history, its community mission, and its partnership with the Harris County Attorney’s Office.

"Here in Harris County, we celebrate the diversity that makes our community strong."

Harris County Attorney Abbie Kamin has issued a powerful statement condemning Attorney General Ken Paxton’s latest lawsuit targeting LGBTQIA+ families and medical professionals. She calls the legal action a wasteful political stunt designed to stoke division during Pride Month rather than address the real challenges Texans face.

Harris County Attorney Abbie Kamin stood alongside Representative Simmons, Pastor Lou McElroy, and Bishop James Dixon II at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church to recognize Juneteenth, and speak plainly about the work still in front of us: protecting the right to vote.

A heartfelt thank-you to Pastor McElroy and the entire Antioch Missionary Baptist Church family for hosting, and to Congressman Menefee and Representative Simmons for joining us and standing together for our community. 🤍

Juneteenth is more than a moment in history. It is a reminder of the precious fragility of freedom—and a call to action.

Standing in the historic Freedmen’s Town at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church alongside Congressman Christian Menefee and next-generation leaders, Harris County Attorney Abbie Kamin delivered a powerful message this Juneteenth.

From 1865 to the passing of the Voting Rights Act in 1965, the fight for equality has never stopped. Today, as voting rights face modern threats, our commitment to defending democracy remains unshakable.

🗳️ The Promise: Harris County will continue to protect your right to vote, support our election workers, and ensure our elections remain safe, accessible, and trusted.

Progress cannot be taken for granted—it must be safeguarded. Let’s continue the work.
