The Soccer World Championship brought a team of 3 reporters from the Kronen Zeitung, Austria's largest newspaper, to Houston.
The daily paper reaches a circulation of over 1.5 million, or over 30% of the population. They were quite amazed by the city's diversity and Houston's international dominance in energy, medicine (Houston is home to the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world), and aerospace and aviation.

The FIFA World Cup is finally here. Last week the Houston Consular Corps, the third largest in the country, had put on their first very own GALA event. The appropriate motto was the FIFA World Cup 2026. 250 people gathered for a fun evening of mariachi bands, violin concerts, and some disco dancing. It truly reflected the international city Houston is, with Consul Generals and Honorary Consuls of over 50 countries at the event. Leaders from several of the largest Houston companies attended as well as members of key associations and institutions, from the Houston City College to the AJC. The port authority, the airport as well. The head of the Houston FIFA committee, Chris Canetti, and the county judge, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, who leads the second-largest county in the country.
The last pre-game events were also a large gathering of the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, celebrating 50 years, and the World Cup and a trivia evening hosted by the German Consulate.
