🎬This weekend at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston: screening of 2025 coming-of-age drama film "The Little Sister" (La Petite Dernière) written and directed by Hafsia Herzi.
Winner of the Q***r Palm at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, this coming-of-age drama follows Fatima (Nadia Melliti), the youngest of three daughters in a traditional Algerian family, as she moves from high school to college in Paris. Exploring a whole new world, she grapples with how to balance her attraction to women with respect for her caring Muslim family. She also confronts a timeless and heartrending dilemma: How can one stay true to oneself when reconciling different parts of one’s identity feels impossible?

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston will be screening this month (June 5 and 21) 1958 French crime thriller tragedy film "Elevator to the Gallows" (Ascenseur pour l’échafaud), directed by by Louis Malle.
The directorial debut of Louis Malle, this atmospheric thriller features the role that catapulted the career of actress Jeanne Moreau. With rich black-and-white cinematography by Henri Decaë and an evocative musical score by jazz great Miles Davis, this noir-meets-New-Wave film marked a turning point in French cinema, and its legendary score signaled new musical directions for Davis.

Today, the Consulate General of France in Houston had the honor of awarding Séverine Ireland the distinction of Chevalière dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques, one of France’s oldest and most prestigious honors recognizing exceptional contributions to education, culture, and the promotion of the French language.
From her early career as a Spanish teacher in France to her leadership roles in the French National Education system, and today as Head of the French Program at The The Awty International School in Houston, Séverine Ireland has dedicated her career to educational excellence, multilingual learning, and international understanding.
Through her work, she has helped shape the educational journey of hundreds of students and strengthened the presence of French education in Houston’s international community.
