Today, we honor the dads who serve our community and the families who support them every step of the way. Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers and father figures who lead with courage, patience, and compassion, both on and off duty.

Mauricio Pochettino, the head coach of the US Men’s National Team (USMNT)⚽️, asked to check out our DARE Cybertruck after today’s practice at the Great Park. Officer Mendoza upped the game and took him on a quick tour of the park.

The USMNT has been so great to work with, and we love having them in Irvine.

On Monday, a resident on Martin came home to find their sliding glass door open and saw a man running away.

Officers quickly checked the area and found the man walking in a nearby parking lot with the stolen property.

Harrison Johnson, 41, of Los Angeles, was arrested for burglary, and the property was returned to the victim.

Outrun a patrol unit on the ground? Maybe. Outrun a flying robot? Not a chance.

After an Irvine citizen reported a suspected drunk driver swerving all over the road, our Real-Time Crime Center's Drone as First Responder pilot sent out our favorite eye in the sky. The driver attempted to dodge responding patrol officers by hiding out in a shopping center, but it's tough to hide when a police drone is capturing your every move in 4K.

The pilot captured the driver bobbing and weaving down the street in high definition as our dispatchers used our drone's view to guide our patrol officers to the car and safely pull him over. The driver was ultimately taken into custody for driving under the influence.

The result? One traffic stop, one DUI arrest, and a safer roadway for everyone else. Drive sober or be ready for your close-up.

DUI enforcement is one of our top priorities.

Earlier this week, officers investigated a traffic collision near Alton and Harvard. One driver was arrested for DUI.

Our Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint this evening. Please report drunk drivers by calling 9-1-1.

- UPDATE - Yesterday morning, after our news release was posted on social media, an alert community member reported a black Ford SUV with damage to the front area parked on the side of the road near Barranca Parkway and the SR-133.

Our Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) immediately responded, began investigating the vehicle, and determined it had been involved in the collision.

Through an extensive investigation, Felix Murillo, 25, of Lake Forest, was identified as the driver. Murillo was arrested this afternoon by Irvine Police Traffic Detectives. He will be booked at Orange County Jail on felony hit-and-run charges. We thank the community for the information they shared, which helped lead to the suspect's quick arrest.

Original Post – On June 10, at around 8:54 p.m., the Irvine Police Department (IPD) received a report of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of Alton Parkway and Irvine Center Drive.

IPD and the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) immediately responded and attempted life-saving measures. The pedestrian was transported to a hospital, where they were pronounced deceased.

Preliminary information indicates that the pedestrian was walking northbound in the marked crosswalk across Alton Parkway on the east side of Irvine Center Drive when they were struck by a westbound vehicle traveling through the intersection.

The Irvine Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the driver and vehicle involved in this collision. The vehicle is possibly dark-colored and likely has damage to the front.

The victim's name will not be released until the family has been notified.

IPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating this case. Anyone with information about the collision or the driver is asked to contact Detective Hank Gallegos at (949) 724-7024 or [email protected].
