Officer Jared Mathis joined the LVMPD in 2022, after relocating from Philadelphia and completing his service in the United States Navy. Motivated by a desire to continue serving both his country and community, Mathis brought his commitment to public service to Southern Nevada and began his career with the Metro.

Since joining, Mathis has served as an Area Command Intelligence Officer for the Bolden Area Command and currently works as a Police Officer assigned to the Safe Village Initiative. Looking ahead, he hopes to become certified as a Crisis Negotiator, further expanding his ability to help those in need throughout the community.

Mathis says one of the things he appreciates most about the department is the wide variety of career opportunities available to employees. He believes that no matter what your interests are, there is a place within the department to pursue your passion "if you show up, ask questions, and learn to become proficient."

For those considering a career with LVMPD, Mathis encourages those to schedule a ride-along and ask questions about the areas that interest them most. His dedication to service and commitment to making a positive impact continue to strengthen both the department and the community he serves.

Thank you for all you do for the LVMPD and community, Officer Mathis!

Officer Joshua Melvin joined the LVMPD in 2008, after deciding to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming a police officer. Before joining Metro, Melvin worked as a journeyman carpenter at Harrah’s. While he enjoyed the trade, he felt something was missing and knew that a career in law enforcement would provide the sense of purpose and fulfillment he was looking for. Melvin's older brother is also an LVMPD Sergeant, who has been a great example of how to police, footsteps in which he'd love to follow.

Throughout his career with Metro, Melvin has remained passionate about patrol work and has spent most of his time as a patrol officer. In addition, he has worked on the FLEX Team and is currently assigned to the Community Oriented Policing Team for the Bolden Area Command. He will shortly be starting his new role as a Field Training Officer, where he will help mentor and train the next generation of Metro officers. Looking ahead, Melvin hopes to continue advancing within the department and eventually promote to Sergeant.

What Melvin appreciates most about the LVMPD is the wide variety of opportunities available to employees, allowing each person to pursue the path that best fits their interests and goals. For those considering a career with Metro, he encourages them to join for the right reasons: a genuine desire to help others and make a positive difference every day.

Thank you for all you do for the LVMPD and the Las Vegas community, Officer Melvin!
