The historic World War I German howitzer in Andover was returned to its longtime home at the Park following an extensive 18-month restoration project. The century-old cannon was meticulously refurbished through a collaborative community effort. The project was spearheaded by Director of Veterans Services Mark Comeiro and State Representative Frank Moran securing state funding to support the project. All the physical repairs were managed by students and instructors from the machine shop, auto body, and carpentry programs at Greater Lawrence Technical School. Additionally, a specialist wheelwright was brought in to restore the cannon's deteriorating wooden wheels. The howitzer was captured by American forces during WWI and donated to the town by VFW Post 2128 in 1932.
