Better visibility. Safer turns.

NDOT is reviewing Offset Right-Turn Lanes (ORTLs) as it considers expanding their use on state highways and new development access roads. Engineers are evaluating the latest research on safety, operations, and cost-effectiveness to help determine where these lanes can make the biggest impact.

Nebraskans helping Nebraskans.

Gov. Jim Pillen, in partnership with NDOT and the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, is launching the Nebraska Wildfire Hay Recovery Program as part of ongoing efforts to support ranchers impacted by historic wildfires. The program allows hay harvested from eligible state highway rights-of-way to be donated to ranchers and help them continue operations.

The Blackstone Streetscape Improvement Project is moving forward. Bids were opened June 11 for the Omaha project, which received $2 million through a 2023 congressional earmark secured by Rep. Don Bacon. It will now move into the bid review process prior to awarding the contract.

The project will improve safety and mobility in the Blackstone District through roadway and pedestrian enhancements while supporting local businesses and economic activity. Construction is expected to begin and be completed in 2027.

Thank you to Congressman Bacon, Nebraska's congressional delegation, and Gov. Jim Pillen for their continued support of transportation investments that benefit Nebraska.

Parts of western Nebraska are in a Red Flag Warning through Friday evening. Low humidity, gusty winds, and dry vegetation can allow wildfires to spread quickly. With the South Fork Fire continuing to burn, do your part to prevent new fires: avoid parking in grass, secure trailer chains, and never toss ci******es from vehicles.

Traveling in the area? Check Nebraska 511 for current road conditions and potential fire-related impacts.

With storms and heavy rainfall, remember to stay aware on the roads for potential flooding.
Remember:
-Do NOT drive into flooded roadways or around a barricade. Turn around, don't drown!
-Water may be deeper than it appears and can hide hazards.
-A vehicle caught in fast moving water can be swept away in seconds.

On Thursday, NDOT enjoyed hosting a group of young women from Cornhusker Girls State! Sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, this program gives participants hands-on experience with local, county, and state government through a simulated government structure based on Nebraska law.

As part of their experience, the students spent time with our team learning about the work we do and how transportation supports communities across Nebraska. Thank you to Alyse, Weili, Natalie, and Mieke for visiting us. We enjoyed sharing what we do and hearing about your experiences and interests. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors!
