The smoke didn't stop at the city line. Neither should the answers.
That warehouse fire in Boyle Heights put Montebello on the County's air quality advisories for days: ammonia, volatile organic compounds, heavy metals, and fine particulate matter.

If I were on the Council right now, my job would be simple: get information and resources to the residents who need them. That means partnering with city administrators, county supervisors, and state leaders to answer three questions fast:

What's our local notification plan when hazardous smoke reaches us, and who tells residents to close windows and run filtration?
What monitoring data is the County giving us, and when?
What oversight exists for facilities storing hazardous materials this close to our homes?

This isn't panic. It's preparedness. When our schools can act this quickly, our city can too. That's the representation I'm running to deliver.

Today, right here in the South Side, our Montebello Police Department opened a new resource center and we want to say congratulations.

This is a real investment in our neighborhood, and it matters that it’s here, close to the residents who call this community home. To our officers and the department: thank you. We’re grateful, and we look forward to working alongside you to keep the South Side strong
