Homelessness in the News

Recent reporting examined claims that homeless voters influenced the outcome of the Los Angeles mayoral primary and found no evidence of widespread voter fraud.

The reporting also addressed voter registrations connected to The Midnight Mission and other service providers. Election officials emphasized that people experiencing homelessness have the legal right to vote and may use a shelter, service provider, or other location where they regularly receive services as a mailing address. Officials further noted that voter registration records do not indicate whether a person is residing at a facility or simply receiving services there.

Xavier and his dog, Skippy, spend their days together navigating life on the streets. When it's time for a meal, they know they can stop by The Midnight Mission for a warm plate of food and a welcoming environment.

If you or someone you know is in need of a free meal, our doors are open.

Yesterday, Georgia Hawley, Chief Communications Officer of The Midnight Mission, joined fellow service providers, nonprofit leaders, advocates, and community partners at the Los Angeles Central Providers Collaborative (LACPC) meeting.

These conversations are a powerful reminder that while the challenges facing our communities are complex, there are dedicated organizations and individuals working every day to create meaningful change. By sharing knowledge, strengthening partnerships, and learning from one another, we can build more effective pathways to stability, recovery, housing, and self sufficiency.

Since 1914, The Midnight Mission has worked alongside community partners to address homelessness in Los Angeles. We know that lasting solutions are built through collaboration, compassion, and a shared commitment to helping our neighbors thrive.

Thank you to everyone who participated in yesterday's discussion and continues to show up for our community. Together, we can accomplish far more than any one organization can alone.
