🖤 On June 12th, we honor the memory of Marshal Samuel Perry Burks, who gave his life in the line of duty in 1902.
Marshal Burks, who also served as McKinney’s Fire Chief, was fatally shot while responding to a prowler call. He had served our community for 11 years and was survived by his wife and three children.
124 years later, we still remember his sacrifice and we always will.

Teen Academy is in full swing, and our students are getting a behind the scenes look at the many facets of law enforcement and the criminal justice system. Throughout the week, participants have had the opportunity to learn from officers, detectives, civilian staff, and community partners while gaining a better understanding of the work that goes into keeping our community safe.
One of the highlights this week was a visit from Judge Jay Bender, who took time out of his vacation to speak with our students. Judge Bender has been a tremendous supporter of Teen Academy for many years, and we are grateful for his continued partnership and commitment to investing in the next generation.
From hands on activities to classroom discussions and real world demonstrations, Teen Academy continues to provide students with valuable experiences, lasting memories, and a deeper appreciation for public service.
Thank you, Judge Bender, and thank you to everyone helping make this year's Teen Academy a success!
