Our Take Back Texas event in Washington, D.C. on June 20 was a tremendous success.

I was honored to stand alongside six outstanding candidates committed to restoring balance and accountability in our government: Jason Pearce (TX-04), Chelsey Hockett (TX-05), Claire Reynolds (TX-11), Steven Shook (TX-26), Justin Early (TX-31), and Dan Barrios (TX-32).

Together, we represented the Texas contingent of the Take BAC Congress coalition, built around a simple idea: Congress should work for its constituents, not big money or special interests.

That’s why we are united behind a comprehensive anti-corruption agenda that includes congressional term limits, banning stock trading by members of Congress, overturning Citizens United, and strengthening Supreme Court and Lobbying ethics rules.

After the event, we were proud to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community in our nation’s capital. A government that works for everyone begins with respecting the dignity and rights of every American.

Texas is on the front lines in the battle for our nation’s future. There is no cavalry coming. We are the cavalry. Join us.

My Dad, Will, is a fierce competitor who excelled at every sport. He coached me, cheered me on, and never let me win unless I earned it.

I grew up listening to him practice classical guitar for hours on end. Before I was born, he was the lead guitarist in a rock band that opened for Buffalo Springfield and The Doors. But he gave up his dream of becoming a professional musician to build a family and create opportunities for me. He stayed home with me as an infant so my mother could pursue her educational career. Later, as he built his real estate business, he never felt the need to step on others or cut corners to get ahead. And in more than five decades of marriage, I never saw him look at another woman. In fact, I’ve rarely seen him lose his patience or temper, speak crudely, or treat anyone with disrespect.

He loves long walks with the dogs, art, architecture, and the outdoors. He is always ready with a helping hand, a clean joke, or a word of encouragement. He can strike up a conversation with anyone, regardless of their status, culture, or creed.

What makes his example even more remarkable is that he built it himself. His own father was not nearly as attentive or caring. My dad is living proof that we can rise above the examples we are given and choose a better path.

The lessons he taught me were simple enough to remember and powerful enough to guide a life:

1. When all else fails, follow the Golden Rule and treat others the way you want to be treated.
2. Leave things better than you found them.
3. Do it the right way or don’t do it at all.
4. Don’t forget to stop and appreciate the view.

In a world where many “successful” men brag, blame, complain, bully, and belittle, I’ll keep trying to follow my dad’s example: staying reasonable, humble, classy, and kind.

None of the other stuff impresses me.

Proud to endorse Maudie Peters for CD3 SDEC Chairwoman and Nick Dangerfield for CD3 SDEC Chairman.

Maudie has spent her life serving others as a teacher and nurse. Nick is a self-made Texan, proven operations leader, and problem solver.

Together, they represent the leadership we need: a peaceful, patriotic, big-tent Democratic Party focused on solving problems for the 99%.

Today we celebrate Juneteenth, commemorating June 19, 1865, when Union Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and issued General Order No. 3, announcing that enslaved people were free.

Although President Abraham Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation more than two years earlier, on January 1, 1863, many enslaved Texans did not learn of their freedom until Union troops arrived to enforce it at the end of the Civil War.

Juneteenth reminds us that freedom is not self-executing. Rights written on paper only matter when they are protected in practice.

At our nation’s founding, America declared that all people are created equal and endowed with the unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The history of our country is the ongoing effort to make that promise real for everyone.

We celebrate Juneteenth not because the work is finished, but because each generation has a responsibility to move us closer to equal opportunity, equal treatment under the law, and a nation where every person can fully share in the American Dream.

Freedom is worth protecting. Equality is worth pursuing. And the work of building a more perfect union continues.

It’s on us.

Republicans denied any involvement with Project 2025 because it was deeply unpopular with voters, then betrayed their trust by implementing more than half of it once they took office. Now I’m proposing a Project 2026 with policies that voters are actually asking for.

Over a billion dollars a day. American soldiers dead. Bases damaged. Iranian civilians, including schoolchildren, killed. Another generation in the Middle East traumatized and radicalized against America and Israel.

Our coalition of allies has been strained. Global trade was disrupted. We all felt the impacts at the pump. And now the peace deal reportedly includes up to $300 billion in reconstruction and investment incentives to stabilize the very region this war helped devastate.

If you zoom out, it’s hard not see that we’ve fallen victim to a special form of insanity in which we go to war as a first choice, instead of a last resort. There was no imminent threat, and the Iranian people aren’t capable or aren’t interested in overthrowing their regime.

It’s true that Iran’s nuclear program may have been set back. But the final destination appears to be exactly where diplomacy was always headed: a ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, international inspections, negotiations over enrichment limits and nuclear stockpiles, and sanctions relief.

This war was launched without congressional authorization, without a clear long-term strategy, and without exhausting every diplomatic option.

Strength is not measured by how quickly a President can start a war and how many times he promises a deal. Strength is measured by the wisdom to prevent war, maintain alliances, and only send our sons and daughters into harm’s way when there is no other choice.

The American people deserve accountability for this colossal failure of leadership.

This is a people-first movement worth your time and your energy.
No special interests. No dark money. No prejudice. No judgment.
Just regular people putting boots on the ground to build a better Texas.

Today in Wylie, we celebrated a universal truth that goes back to the very core of the American dream: you cannot have freedom without diversity, and you cannot have diversity without freedom.

America’s strength has always been found in people of different backgrounds, faiths, and experiences coming together in the shared pursuit of liberty, opportunity, and a more perfect union.

Juneteenth reminds us that freedom is not just a promise written on paper. It is a promise we must continue to protect and extend to all.
