As a reminder, we will be conducting live fire exercises this Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday in southwest off Hawk Drive.

Merced Fire Department will be conducting a planned training exercise to enhance firefighter skills and readiness. Resident and visitors may see fire apparatus, emergency personnel, and training related activities in the area during these time. There is no emergency and no cause for alarm.

Yesterday, Engine 51 and Truck 51 conducted a training evolution to enhance the skills of our Engineers and Acting Engineers. These trainings and evolutions are critical in the development of our personnel as well as ensuring operational readiness. Also, as can be seen in the background, some of the neighborhood children utilized the opportunity to cool off in the park. This ended up being a win/win for the community and us.

The Merced Fire Department will be conducting training exercises in the 500 Block of W. Main Street (between Canal Street and M Street) from June 15–20, 2026, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Residents and visitors may see fire apparatus, emergency personnel, and training-related activities in the area during these times. This is a planned training exercise designed to enhance firefighter skills and readiness. There is no emergency and no cause for alarm.

The Merced Fire Department is proud to announce that Fire Chief Casey Wilson has promoted Ryan Paskin to the rank of Battalion Chief.

Chief Paskin will serve as the B Shift Battalion Chief and begin his new assignment on June 20, 2026.

Today, Merced Fire Department firefighters had a great time working with the youth from the Boys & Girls Club of Merced during hands on fire extinguisher training. Participants learned the basics of fire safety and had the opportunity to practice using extinguishers on our live training prop.

This training prop was made possible through a grant and strong partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Merced, helping us provide interactive fire safety education to the next generation. We appreciate the continued collaboration and commitment to keeping our community safe.
