Luke Cavener, Meridian City Councilman
Luke is a dedicated public servant who consistently stands for our shared Idaho values.
Luke is a lifelong resident of Ada County, and while he moved to Meridian at age four, it has always been his home. Luke, wife Adrean and sons Gunner and Lincoln all reside in south Meridian. A product of both joint School District #2 and Bishop Kelly High School, Luke attended University of Nevada Las Vegas where he had the opportunity to intern in Washington, DC for then Senator John Ensign, R-N
Why can't the City Council discuss an open application? With no workshop or meaningful action at the main meeting I wanted to breakdown why the City Council can't privately discuss open land use applications.

Huge thanks to our partners at Ada County Highway District (ACHD) and Idaho Transportation Department for their partnership in moving this major project forward.
Can’t wait to see the results in a year from now!!
In coordination with County Highway District (ACHD) and Transportation Department, Phase 2 of the Linder Road Overpass and Roadway project will begin this month.
The project includes an overpass over Interstate 84 and widening Linder Road with a center turn lane and sidewalks.

This is an important issue, and one that will save you money. The Western Ada Recrestiom District was a vital part of our community. However as Meridian has grown and our park ststem expanded, the need for a separate taxing district focused on recreation became a duplicative service. The City has worked over the years to develop a strategic and thoughtful approach to transferring WARDs assets to the City. The lest step is dissolution of the district. Please vote to dissolve and feel free to reach out with questions. Thank you Representative Jeff Ehlers for flagging the reminder!

Voters in District 21, please vote Yes on the West Ada Rec District Dissolution. TL;DR – The District is empty, no longer necessary & a Yes vote lowers your property taxes.
I was approached by a West Ada Rec board member almost 2 years ago and I carried and passed legislation a year ago (HB102) to make it easier to get this dissolution on the ballot. The Board has turned over all their parks and assets to the city of Meridian. Voting Yes doesn’t change anything about the quality or quantity of parks or pools in our area. The Rec District is essentially a ghost entity. If they don’t dissolve, they have to pay lawyers & accountants to file their required paperwork, which means they have to keep charging us property tax to pay for all that. The Board wants to dissolve (in fact they are budgeting $0 this year assuming they will be dissolved) and a ballot measure is the way to do so per Idaho law. Please vote Yes on this measure!

Such a great event! I have a garage full of treasure for you to collect next month!
Give your unwanted items a new home!
Registration for Trash or Treasure is now open.
The Trash or Treasure event is May 16th -17th.
This event allows residents to place clean, gently used, workable household items out at their curb. Fellow residents (Treasure Hunters) can use an online interactive Treasure Map to locate these items, giving them a new life and diverting them from the local landfill.
Register by May 13th at MeridianCity.org/tort to be placed on the map.

Earlier this month, our community lost a great champion. Billie Bowles was, and is, emblematic of our great community. She was fiercely passionate, extremely loyal, and, I apologize to all of you, my favorite constituent. Billie had a talent for always identifying something that needed to be fixed or improved. I first met Billie while volunteering at the Meridian Food Bank long before I was elected. We bonded over Meridian and HP, but mostly we talked about our families and lives. Later, when the City launched a volunteer program, Billie was one of the first to sign up. She was a fixture at City Hall, and when I would visit, I'd plan for an extra 15 minutes to catch up on all things City Hall. Last spring, when she had an injury that prevented her from volunteering at City Hall, our conversations moved to her porch. Summer nights telling stories of our childhood will forever be a core memory. Candidly, I thought she'd outlive us all. It wasn't until I saw her obituary below that I realized she was 85! She will forever be a friend, but our community lost a bit of its luster with Billie's passing. If you were a friend of hers or of our community, I encourage you to attend her amazing celebration of life. https://www.cloverdalefuneralhome.com/obituaries/obituary-listings?obId=47263989
