Proudly serving Broward, Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Indian River, Lee, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Okeechobee, Palm Beach, Polk, Sarasota & St. Our network of generous donors, volunteers and employees share a mission of preventing and relieving suffering, here at home and around the world, through five key service areas:
Disaster Relief
The Red Cross responds t
o approximately 70,000 disasters in the United States every year, ranging from home fires that affect a single family to hurricanes that affect tens of thousands, to earthquakes that impact millions. In these events, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, health and mental health services to help families and entire communities get back on their feet. Although the Red Cross is not a government agency, it is an essential part of the response when disaster strikes. We work in partnership with other agencies and organizations that provide services to disaster victims. Supporting America’s Military Families
The Red Cross helps military members, veterans and their families prepare for, cope with, and respond to the challenges of military service. Emergency communications, training, support to wounded warriors and veterans, and access to community resources help an average of 150,000 military families and veterans annually. Lifesaving Blood
Currently the the organization doesn't take blood donations in South Florida. In other parts of the nation, donations of blood are what make the American Red Cross the largest single supplier of blood and blood products in the U.S. Each year, nearly 4 million people donate blood through the Red Cross, helping to provide more than 40% of America’s blood supply. Health and Safety Services
The Red Cross is the nation’s leading provider of health and safety courses, such as CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard training. Each year, more than 9 million Americans participate in our training programs, including first responders, educators, babysitters, and people who want to be prepared to help others in an emergency. International Services
The American Red Cross is part of the world’s largest humanitarian network with 13 million volunteers in 187 countries. Working together, we help respond to disasters, build safer communities, and teach the rules of war. Each year, we reach an average of more than 100 million people across the globe.

Some lives leave a legacy that continues to change lives.
Mary “Mimi” Shafey dedicated her life to caring for others—as a nurse, philanthropist, Red Cross leader, and cherished member of our South Florida community. Her compassion, generosity, and commitment to service touched countless lives and strengthened the mission of the American Red Cross.
Today, we invite you to help us honor Mimi's remarkable legacy by supporting our effort to name a Red Cross disaster response vehicle in her memory. This vehicle will deliver help, hope, and comfort to families facing emergencies across South Florida, carrying her spirit of service forward every mile.
Join us in ensuring Mimi's legacy continues to reach those who need it most.
Yesterday, our Disaster Cycle Services team deployed an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) to support the Sarasota Fire Department during an active brush fire response in Venice. 🚒
Our team provided canteening services, including water, snacks, and refreshments, to approximately 40–45 first responders working in challenging hot and humid conditions while battling two brush fires.

When disasters strike, pets are family too. 🐾
Our shelter at the Miami-Dade County Fairgrounds is pet-friendly, helping families stay together during uncertain times. Among our overnight guests was Michy, a cat who arrived with her four-day-old kittens after being displaced by the brush fire.
The Red Cross welcomes pets at disaster shelters whenever possible because we know how important it is to keep families, furry family members included, safe and together during emergencies.
To help those impacted by disasters, both big and small, like the wildfire visit redcross.org or text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a financial donation.

‼️ Smoke from the ongoing brush fire in Miami-Dade County can affect everyone, even those far from the fire itself.
🌫️ Protect yourself from wildfire smoke by:
• Staying indoors as much as possible
• Keeping windows and doors closed
• Running air conditioning on recirculate mode when possible
• Limiting outdoor activities, especially for children, older adults and those with respiratory conditions
• Monitoring local officials for air quality and safety updates
If local officials issue evacuation orders, leave immediately and follow their guidance. We encourages everyone to stay informed, remain prepared and look out for neighbors who may need extra assistance during this ongoing wildfire response. Download the free Red Cross Emergency App for real-time alerts, weather warnings and preparedness information.
