Now Screening: “David” by Sam Taylor-Johnson.

Take a meditative breather during your travels with a video portrait of a global icon, Sir David Beckham. Moving away from the high-energy of a soccer game and paparazzi lenses, this single long-take film from 2004 captures Beckham taking a siesta after a training session with his team at the time, Real Madrid CF. British contemporary artist and filmmaker Sam Taylor-Johnson draws on diverse influences from Michelangelo’s sculpture David to Andy Warhol’s 1964 film Sleep to offer a beautiful, intimate film that evokes a serene, contemplative calm.
