It's World Elder Abuse Awareness Day!

We're sporting our purple in support of survivors of elder abuse💜

We want older adults in our community to know that their value never expires - there is no point at which neglect or mistreatment are ok, and that there is HOPE for those experiencing it 📣

Everyone deserves to live free from abuse, at every age... but sadly, about 1 in 10 older Americans will experience some form of mistreatment.

Elder abuse comes in many forms: financial exploitation (stealing money, forging documents), physical abuse (hurting on purpose), emotional abuse (yelling, insults, ignoring), sexual abuse (unwanted sexual touching/advances), or neglect (not attending to basic needs) ❌

💙 To report suspected abuse, neglect, self-neglect, or exploitation of a vulnerable adult contact local law enforcement or adult protective services

💙 Resources for victims of elder abuse:
o Contact the Nampa Family Justice Center at 208-475-5700
o Contact the Victim Connect Resource Center at 855-484-2846 or online at https://victimconnect.org/

June is Month - let’s talk about “self-neglect” and what it looks like💙

Neglecting an older, vulnerable adult under your care is a form of elder abuse. But some seniors who live independently can fall into self-neglect, often due to dementia, mental illness, addiction, or becoming physically frail.

Self-Neglect happens when vulnerable adults fail to care for their own basic needs such as safe housing, appropriate medical care, adequate food and water, and personal hygiene.

Here are some common signs to look out for:

✅Living in a hoarded or hazardous home
✅Living in a home without proper utilities like water, heat, electricity (unpaid bills)
✅Inadequate food or drinking water
✅Increased social isolation / withdrawal
✅Living with unmet medical needs, untreated illnesses or injuries
✅Failing to care for their pets
✅Failing to care for their own personal hygiene or safety
✅Deteriorating mental or physical state (memory loss, dementia, addiction, mental illness, or a physical limitation that keeps them from being able to care for themselves properly)
