Members of our Leonard Covello Older Adult Center kicked off our Father’s Day celebration with heartfelt performances dedicated to our dads. It was a wonderful day filled with music, laughter, appreciation, and great company as we celebrated the fathers and father figures who mean so much to our CBN community. ✨

Members of our Roosevelt Island Older Adult Center gathered in the garden for a cooking demonstration with Cook Louella and volunteer Sally, exploring the rich flavors of Mediterranean potato salad alongside fresh vegetables.

The hands-on experience sparked curiosity and appreciation for different cultures through cuisine, with laughter and conversation filling the air as everyone gathered around to see, learn, and taste.

The afternoon was full of smiles, connection, and a shared appreciation for food, culture, and community. 🍅

In recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, our Community Elder Mistreatment & Abuse Prevention Program (CEMAPP) Director, Margaret Woods, and her team spoke at the Bill Dionne Older Adult Center. Their presentation centered on raising awareness, sharing valuable information, and empowering older adults to recognize and prevent elder abuse.

We were grateful to everyone who attended and participated in the discussion. As a token of appreciation, attendees received special gift bags from CBN at the event's conclusion.

Together, we can help create safer, stronger, and more informed communities for older adults.

Financial Abuse/Exploitation is one of the most common and often overlooked forms of elder abuse.

It happens when someone illegally or improperly uses an older adult’s money, property, credit cards, bank accounts, or other assets for their own benefit. The person responsible may be a scammer, caregiver, friend, or even a family member.

On World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, we’re raising awareness about the signs of financial exploitation and reminding older adults that help is available.

Carter Burden Network's Community Elder Mistreatment & Abuse Prevention Program (CEMAPP) supports older adults throughout New York City with safety planning, counseling, legal guidance, court advocacy, and community education. By learning the signs and speaking up, we can help protect older adults from financial exploitation and promote aging with dignity, security, and respect.
