I started collecting colostrum at 37 weeks. Colostrum is thick and has a yellow or “gold” hue to it and it is PACKED with white blood cells and antibodies to support baby in those first few days of life. It also has a laxative effect to help baby pass meconium and prevent jaundice. How freaking cool right?
It was important for me to collect colostrum for baby in the case that baby needed some additional support in those first few days after the birth or if I needed to be away from baby for some reason so my partner had to feed baby. Colostrum is a complete food. It meets all your baby’s needs in their first days of life and let me tell you it is a labor of love. Because of its thick consistency it takes a lot of hard work and patience to get out but I’m so proud of the little stash that I’m building for my girl 🩷🍼
