Fellows from MYNYC went on a day trip to City Hall, hosted by and

CM Hanif’s Legislative Fellow provided a brief presentation on the role of city council in passing bills, how CM Hanif became the first muslim woman council member, and what values guide their offices work.

Know your cool options
Cool Options is a new citywide term that refers to the full range of safe, air-conditioned or cool places New Yorkers can go during extreme heat.

This includes:
•Personal options like a friend’s or family member’s A/C home
•Public options like libraries, senior centers, and museums
•Private options like malls, theaters, or coffee shops
•NYC Cooling Centers activated during heat emergencies—free, public spaces across all five boroughs.

Starting June 1st, new federal SNAP work requirements are now in effect and may impact thousands of New Yorkers receiving food assistance.

These changes may require some recipients to meet work, training, or volunteer requirements in order to maintain benefits, while NYC outreach efforts continue to support and reduce risk for those affected.

If you or someone you know receives SNAP, make sure to stay informed, check your notices, and access available support.

Resources are available through NYC SNAP and ACCESS HRA or email us at [email protected]
