Welcome back NYC Council Alumni!
It was wonderful welcoming back so many eras of leaders who have made New York better for everyone!
They joined us as the Council held its stated meeting, where we advanced legislation that will:
✅ Support early childhood education and childcare programs and applicants by creating a study to streamline the process.
✅ Require Know-Your-Rights Signage that makes clear how immigration enforcement can access City property.
✅ Make older adult services more accessible by requiring the Department for the Aging to make information accessible through non-digital formats.
✅ Affirm Juneteenth and the City of New York’s commitment to upholding the legacy of the holiday.
To learn more about the legislation passed today, see the link in bio.

Today, Speaker Julie Menin announced “New Libraries, New Homes”, the latest proposal in the City Council’s proactive approach to increasing the city’s supply of affordable housing.
The Council is calling for a $60 million capital investment in this year’s budget to redevelop three initial library sites identified with the support of Council Members Kevin Riley, Chi Ossé, Julie Won, and Amanda Farías. Representing each of the city’s three library systems, the projects would deliver modernized libraries alongside 100% affordable housing — a win-win for neighborhoods
By identifying new opportunities, engaging communities, and advancing innovative ideas, the Council is helping chart a path toward a more affordable and livable city.
