🏘️ Governor Kathy Hochul today marked another major milestone for the Vital Brooklyn Initiative with the completion of Utica Crescent and the groundbreaking of Sparrow Square in East Flatbush.

Backed by more than $500 million in State investment, these developments will deliver 583 affordable homes, healthcare and community services, retail space, and supportive housing. Through strategic redevelopment and investment, Empire State Development is helping transform underutilized sites into vibrant, mixed-use neighborhoods that expand opportunity, strengthen communities, and create a more equitable future for Brooklyn.

Building the talent pipeline is critical to the continued growth of New York’s life sciences ecosystem. 🧬

Last week, Empire State Development joined LaGuardia Community College, Upper West Strategies and industry partners to celebrate the Spring Institute Closing Event for the Life Science Training-to-Internship Program.

After three months of hands-on training, students are now heading into summer internships with life sciences employers across New York—gaining the skills and experience needed to support the State’s thriving life science innovation economy.

Strategic investments are helping communities reimagine what’s possible.

Through the FY 2027 Budget, Governor Kathy Hochul announced a landmark $300 million Rochester-Monroe Transformation Initiative to support housing, infrastructure, public spaces, and community revitalization projects across the Rochester region.

The initiative includes funding for High Falls State Park, transforming underutilized land into a destination that reconnects residents with the Genesee River while supporting future economic activity and neighborhood growth.

Major progress is underway at the former Syracuse Developmental Center site. 🏗️

With demolition complete, construction has begun on the first phase of a $100 million mixed-use redevelopment that will transform the long-vacant property into a vibrant community featuring more than 250 new homes, 7.5 acres of green space, and retail space.

Supported by up to $29 million from ESD, the project will help expand housing options, create a regional employment hub, and prepare Central New York for the historic growth opportunities driven by Micron’s $100 billion investment.
