We're gardening! Natalie Brickajlik from The Horticultural Society of New York came last week with lots of plants for our raised beds. She talked about each plant, some of which were very fragrant, and explained how to decide where to plant each one. We discovered that we have some serious and experienced gardeners who really got into the digging and planting, following up with a good watering. Natalie will be coming back next Wednesday, weather permitting, for another gardening session.

Fred from the Brooklyn Music School is in every Wednesday morning and mixes percussion sessions with sing-a-longs and relaxation exercises. It can get loud, so some members choose to spend the hour in quieter activities across the hall. Center programming strives to accommodate the needs of each member.

Recently a crew from The Horticultural Society of New York came to the center to clean up our little garden area and build some new raised beds for our summer gardening project. On June 10 Horticultural Society members will return on a regular schedule (weather permitting) to guide our members in planting flowers and caring for the garden. We are so grateful for this new partnership!

Last week Elizabeth from the American Folk Art Museum led a program discussing a couple pieces of art from the Museum. The second one, by artist Clementine Hunter, has a small image of herself in the middle. Elizabeth took photos of each member so that they could create their own painting in a similar style. The whole program inspired lots of discussion and inspired artworks.
