A hero serving the City of New York and a hero at home to his son.
FDNY Deputy Chief Edward Esposito led by example when his son, Probationary Firefighter Dylan Esposito, expressed an interest in following in his father’s footsteps since an early age.
For Father’s Day, the two reflected on their strong bond, their shared passion to improve in their professions, and their committed service to New Yorkers.
Today, as they stand together as members of the FDNY, firefighting isn’t just as job for them. It’s a way of life.
“I have wanted to be a firefighter for as long as I can remember,” Firefighter Dylan Esposito said. “When I was a child, I remember going to work with my father, and that made me really want to become a firefighter. My dad works very hard, and that is something I look up to and admire the most about him.”
Happy Father’s Day!

Early Friday afternoon, FDNY members responded to a 3-alarm fire at a three-story private dwelling on East 160th Street in the Bronx.
"We had heavy fire on arrival, and the engine companies stretched hoselines into that fire very aggressively, which likely prevented the fire from extending," Deputy Assistant Chief John Corcoran said. "The ladder companies, rescue companies and squad companies also conducted aggressive searches for life throughout the building."
During operations, a rear wall of the fire building collapsed. After evaluating the conditions, all members were ordered to exit the structure, and operations transitioned to a defensive operation while crews continued to extinguish remaining pockets of fire.
Approximately 65 fire and EMS units—about 190 personnel—responded to the incident. No civilian or member injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
