Today we sent a letter to Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani along with 50+ advocates and service providers: fund NYC Commission on Human Rights at $25M in FY2027.

New York City’s Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) is the agency responsible for investigating housing discrimination complaints and enforcing the city’s human rights laws.

For years, our team and member leaders have been calling for increased funding for CCHR.

This agency is the last line of defense for millions of New Yorkers and they must be protected.

Mayor’s Budget Plan Could Further Shrink City’s Housing Discrimination Enforcement 06/12/2026

Last week, our Community Action program team and member leaders joined voucher holders and allies on the steps of City Hall to rally against the proposed budget cuts to the City's Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) - the agency responsible for investigating housing discrimination complaints and enforcing the city's human rights laws.

Currently, the proposed City budget would reduce the agency's funding by 6% and eliminate several staff positions, despite ongoing staffing shortages and significant delays in processing discrimination complaints. For New Yorkers using housing vouchers, these cuts could have serious consequences.

For years, our team and member leaders have been calling for increased funding for CCHR. During the rally, our Community Organizer, Nailah Abdul-Mubdi shared her personal story as a voucher holder, and our Director of Organizing and Public Policy Amy Blumsack emphasized that stronger enforcement is needed to ensure voucher holders have protections.

This past weekend our Community Action Program team and member leaders took a field trip to the Museum of the City of New York!

The Museum of the City of New York explores the people, places, and ideas that shape New York’s iconic character.

Members learned about NYC’s history of activism and grassroots organizing, tenant rights, and housing advocacy.

The museum fosters civic pride through experiences that champion New York’s creativity, ambition, and resilience, and our group had a wonderful time learning in community with one another!

Volunteer Spotlight: Mid-Bedford Heights Lion’s Club

For years, we have welcomed the joyful Mid-Bedford Heights Lion’s Club as volunteers in our Community Cafe. We are always excited to have them join us to help serve meals, prepare pantry bags, and connect with our team. This week, the Lion’s Club also generously donated to our work, and we are grateful for outstanding partnerships like these that help us further our mission.

Volunteers like the Lion’s Club are the reason we’re able to continue to serve thousands of our low-income neighbors every week -ensuring our neighbors are met with dignity and care.

Housing is more than a place to live. It creates space for opportunities, dignity, and long-term sustainable change.

Our friends at have been wonderful partners in helping voucher holders and low income New Yorkers find a place to call home.

Our team had a great time attending their cocktail event in support of their work, and hearing stories of impact from individuals whose lives have been changed by housing support.

Thank you for having us, Anthos | Home!

Last night’s Plates for Change Chef Showcase was absolutely beautiful! It was wonderful to be in BRIC House with so many of our supporters together in community.

We are thrilled to say that we raised over $35,000 last night in support of our mission to end hunger and poverty in central Brooklyn. The event was a beautiful celebration of our work, and it would not have been possible without the support of our incredible community here in Brooklyn!

Thank you! ✨
