We were honored to join community partners at this weekend's Bronx Pet Pantry and Resource Fair!
Thank you to the Mayor's Office, Animal Farm Foundation, the NYC Council Animal Welfare Caucus, Council Member Justin Sanchez, Council Member Harvey Epstein, Council Member Shirley Aldebol, and all of the organizations that came together to support hundreds of families and their beloved pets.
Throughout the event, URI had the opportunity to connect directly with community members, share information about our services, and highlight our PALS (People and Animals Living Safely) program. PALS helps ensure that survivors of domestic violence do not have to choose between their safety and the safety of their pets by providing pet-inclusive sheltering and supportive services.
We are grateful to everyone who stopped by our table, shared their stories, and learned more about the resources available to individuals and families in need.
At this year's STRONGER Celebration, our Unbreakable Spirit Honoree, Jenifer Lewis, reminded us that true strength isn't about carrying everything alone—it's about having the courage to ask for help, heal, and keep moving forward.
For the survivors, families, and communities URI serves every day, that message couldn't be more important.
Thank you, Jenifer, for sharing your story with honesty, humor, and heart, and for helping shine a light on the power of resilience, recovery, and hope.
Thank you Tommy Davidson for bringing your energy and heart to the URI STRONGER 2026 Gala.
We’re so grateful to have had you co-host such an inspiring evening in support of survivors and families across NYC.

"I cannot leave them behind."
When Brenda Santiago made the decision to leave an abusive relationship, her first thought was of her cats, Rainbow and Kitty.
Thanks to URI's People and Animals Living Safely (PALS) program, she didn't have to choose between safety and the pets she loved.
Today, Brenda's story is featured in The New York Times.
For more than a decade, PALS has helped keep families together because pets are family too. No one should have to choose between safety and the pets they love. ❤️
