That’s a wrap—with a pretty bow!—for PRIDEFUL POETRY!

Happy Pride to all! What a stellar evening of poets, poetry, drag and community in FTH’s gallery last night.

It was beautiful to witness so much tenderness and ferocity in one room.

Thanks to Queens World Film Festival and
QWFF ED Katha Cato for bringing everyone together and huge thanks to all the poets and performers for sharing their poems and their hearts with everyone who braved the rain to join us.

Emcee Avant Garbage brought glam, legs, laffs, and shared stories of how far we’ve come and reminded us all how important it is to look out for one another.

Keep doing the good work that makes the rainbows come out after the storm.

Happy Birthday to Flushing Town Hall’s iconic building, which turns 164 today!

Flushing Town Hall's foundation and cornerstone were laid on June 7, 1862, to welcome Union soldiers home from the Civil War. Our landmark Romanesque Revival building, with its triple-arched portico and commanding presence on Northern Boulevard, has lived more lives than most. It’s been a Civil War assembly hall, a seat of village government, an opera house, a vaudeville stage, and so much more.

Frederick Douglass spoke here, as did Ulysses S. Grant and Teddy Roosevelt. The building also welcomed PT Barnum and the legendary Jenny Lind, the “Swedish Nightingale.”

FTH’s building is an NYC Landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places and on the New York State Register of Historic Places.

Our building has always opened its doors to everyone. Queens is a home for everyone, and FTH is a home for Queens.

Happy 164th to our extraordinary building. Here’s to many more!
