Today, we remember and celebrate Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States.
Juneteenth serves as a reminder of freedom, resilience, and unity. It is a time to reflect on our nation's history, celebrate progress, and recognize the contributions that help strengthen our communities.
The Omaha Fire Department is proud to serve our community and join in recognizing the significance of this day. Happy Juneteenth!

Recently, a PulsePoint activation in Omaha alerted 36 nearby responders and identified 20 nearby AEDs.
In this case, the emergency ultimately proved not to be a cardiac arrest. But that's not the story.
The story is that 36 people were willing to go.
Thirty-six people saw a stranger in need and made the decision to step forward.
They left lunch tables, offices, errands, workouts, and daily routines because there was a chance someone in their community needed help.
That's what makes Omaha special.
These aren't firefighters, paramedics, or police officers on duty. They're neighbors. Coworkers. Parents. Students. Everyday people who chose to learn CPR, download an app, and be ready when their community needed them.
That willingness to act is heroic.
Most sudden cardiac arrests happen in front of family, friends, coworkers, and members of the public. Survival often depends on ordinary people doing extraordinary things before emergency crews arrive.
When PulsePoint alerts go out, Omaha continues to prove that we are a city full of people willing to answer that call.
At the Omaha Fire Department, we couldn't be prouder of our community.
To every person who has taken a CPR class, registered with PulsePoint, learned how to use an AED, or responded to an alert: thank you.
You are helping build a city where no one has to face their worst day alone.
Because when Omaha needs help, Omaha shows up.

βΎ Omaha, let's play smart.
The race for a championship is heating up, and our city is showing the country what makes Omaha special.
Cheer loud. High-five strangers. Celebrate the big moments.
Just remember:
π§ Hydrate between innings.
π Pick your designated hitter... for driving.
π Buckle up after the final out.
π€ Watch out for the people you're with.
Championship teams look out for each other. Omaha does too.
Have fun. Stay safe. Enjoy every pitch.

β€οΈπ CODE SAVE FOLLOW-UP πβ€οΈ
Last Friday, we recognized B Shift's Engine 24 and Medic 25 for their role in saving the life of an overdose victim.
At the time, we didn't have photographs of the crews involved, but we knew this was a story worth sharing. Today, we're grateful to be able to put faces to the extraordinary efforts that helped save a life.
As we shared previously, a community member recognized the emergency, administered intranasal naloxone (Narcan), and began high-quality chest compressions before emergency crews arrived. When Engine 24 and Medic 25 arrived on scene, they quickly assumed patient care, continued resuscitative efforts, and successfully achieved return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC).
It takes a team to save a life. From the citizen willing to act in a moment of crisis, to the firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics who continued that care, every link in the chain matters.
We wanted to make sure these members received the recognition they deserve for their skill, professionalism, and dedication to serving our community.
Congratulations to the members of Engine 24 and Medic 25 on this well-deserved Code Save recognition.
Training. Teamwork. Community. Results.

βοΈβ€οΈ CODE SAVE RECOGNITION: DOUGLAS COUNTY DISPATCH β€οΈβοΈ
Among all the links in the American Heart Association's Chain of Survival, few are as important as Telecommunicator Guided CPR.
When someone calls 911 to report a medical emergency, dispatchers ask two critical questions:
"Is the person conscious?"
If the answer is no:
"Is the person breathing normally?"
If the answer is no again, CPR instructions begin.
No. No. Go.
Without high-quality bystander CPR, a victim's chance of survival decreases by approximately 10% for every minute that passes before definitive care arrives. During one of the most stressful moments of a person's life, our dispatch partners remain calm, focused, and compassionate. They coach callers through proper hand placement, compression depth, rate, and recoil. They encourage family members, friends, and even complete strangers to take action and become someone's best chance at survival.
The Omaha Fire Department is proud to recognize another group of our partners at Douglas County Dispatch with Code Save Certificates.
Each certificate represents much more than a phone call. It represents a frightened voice asking for help. It represents teamwork between dispatchers, bystanders, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, emergency physicians, and hospital staff.
Most importantly, it represents someone who regained a pulse and returned home neurologically intact to their family and loved ones.
To our partners at Douglas County Dispatch: thank you for being the calm voice in the chaos and for helping make every link in the Chain of Survival stronger.
Training. Teamwork. Results.
