Sheriff Hanson welcomes you to the official page for The Douglas County Sheriff's Office. This account is not monitored 24/7. Call 911 for emergencies.

For inquiries, please call our front office at 402-444-6641. During the 1800's migration westward, many of the people making the long trip from the eastern part of the country decided to stop in the young territory of Nebraska on the western banks of the Missouri River. Douglas County began to grow and the people of the area wanted someone to protect them from outsiders and themselves. This need b

We appreciate those who have sent in videos of people recklessly riding non-street legal dirt bikes. However, when you see this type of unsafe and illegal activity, call 911. To issue a citation, law enforcement must witness the act; we cannot cite based on a video or photos alone. The CAT Team is also leading proactive efforts in reported hot spots across the County. All of that being said, if you know the individuals in this video, please let us know as we would like to speak with their parents before they are hurt or worse. Tips can be sent to [email protected] or 402-444-6000.

This video was sent to us yesterday and taken near 192nd and Harrison Street. If you are going to take video or pictures, please do not do so while driving. That is also unsafe and contrary to law. Our ultimate goal is to keep our public roads safe for everyone.

Yesterday our Threat Mitigation K9, Bodhi, got to visit the Werner Foundation offices to say thank you. The CL Werner foundation graciously provided the funding that allowed us to purchase Bodhi. Thank you to CL and Rachel Werner for their joint committment to the safety of Douglas County.

Thank you to our community members and businesses that donated supplies for the National Sheriff’s Association Conference held here in Omaha, Nebraska. We were able to hand out gift bags to the attendees of the conference. Along with your help, we showed travelers from across the country how amazing Nebraska is!

Walk. Ride. Drive. However you get around Nebraska, you share the road with someone else and that matters.

Safer streets start with awareness, mutual respect, and all of us doing our part. It's that simple.

Bike Walk Nebraska has been working across the state to build safer, more accessible communities for people who walk and bike, and we're proud to stand behind that mission.

We're committed to looking out for our community. Are you?

Thank you to the Benson American Legion for hosting their family Tuck-A-Truck event on Saturday. Deputies had a blast engaging with attendees and talking about law enforcement here in Douglas County.

Shortly after 11 pm on Saturday, a CAT Team Deputy observed a 15-year-old juvenile crossing W. Center Road on an electric dirt bike. While we do appreciate that he waited for the light to turn green before crossing, he also had no helmet, lights on his vehicle, reflective gear, license, insurance, or registration as he was on a non street legal vehicle.

The Deputy used his discretion and did not cite the juvenile's parent as it was determined that the juvenile had snuck out. However, parents, if you have these vehicles for your children, please keep them secured. With the low visibility and heavy rain this individual's night could have ended tragically.

Dirt bikes are not street legal vehicles, even if they are electric.

Parents, please talk to your kids about safely riding them as well as where and when they can be ridden. The CAT team will continue to impound these vehicles and cite parents, when appropriate, for allowing their children to ride them recklessly on public roads.

The CAT Team is reporting fewer complaints this weekend of teenagers recklessly riding electric motorcycles around the county on public roads. As a reminder, the DCSO will cite parents of juveniles who are caught recklessly riding on public roadways.

Today, we join communities across our nation in commemorating Juneteenth, a day that marks the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates freedom, resilience, and progress.

Juneteenth reminds us of the importance of equality, justice, and the ongoing work of building stronger, more inclusive communities. As members of law enforcement, we remain committed to serving all people with integrity, fairness, and respect.
