Let’sClean Some Dirt!
Reclaiming abandoned or damaged land or buildings by chemicals is vital to rejuvenating derelict properties, improving commerce, employment opportunities, reducing crime, and most of all, improving and protecting the soil where those chemicals leach into the watersheds and then the drinking water of a community.
Orange Soil and Water Conservation District and the Orlando Regional REALTOR® Association presented a seminar on Infilling Potential Brownfields to Central Florida Realtors, bankers, title company employees, insurance agents, investors, and government officials.

The two hour seminar delivered information and materials on Federal State, and local grants, tax credits, and tax refunds available when owners and users of potentially contaminated land want to clean the soil and improve the property values, improve neighborhoods, reduce crime, and help protect the local water supply.

USDA NRCS has opened grants.

We’re now accepting applications for $310 million in funding through the Regional Conservation Partnership Program. This year we've streamlined and simplified RCPP to ease the burden on employees and partners, and to maximize flexibility, and we’re looking for projects that prioritize one or more of the following priorities:

🚜Land management that improves land health, enhances resource management, and promotes sustainable agriculture and long-term protection of agricultural, grassland, and forestland viability;

🌱 Soil health projects using practices that focus on minimizing soil disturbance, maximizing soil cover, increasing natural vitality, and maintaining living roots throughout the year;

📡 Precision agriculture projects that use technology to target conservation efforts based on specific field conditions, potentially reducing costs and improving resource efficiency;

🌽 Farmer-focused projects that provide financial assistance and/or technical expertise for planning and practice designs in support of producer contracts; and

🦅 Projects led by Indian Tribes.

Palm trees are an ecosystem. One species that habitat the s**g on the palm is bats. 🦇 April 16-Aug 14 in bat nesting protection period in Florida. Those mosquito vacuums will be ‘sorely’ missed if you remove their nurseries.

Do not trim the healthy green fronds from a palm above the positions of 9:00 and 3:00.
Trees 🌴 🌳 require green foliage for photosynthesis. This is akin to a human being locked in closet and not fed.

Excess heat and drought weakens trees making them susceptible to diseases and pests. Trimming off the green foliage compounds the damage.

Palms should only be trimmed in late winter and early spring, until April 15.
Live oaks, December through February with the current extreme temperatures
Water oaks, winter and early spring.

Just say, ‘No!’ when the man with a chainsaw and a pickup truck offers.

If you are in Orange County unincorporated, they must remove the debris, not leaving it on curb or code enforcement will explain it to you in writing. Check with you municipality’s solid waste department before hiring a trimming crew.
