Juneteenth reminds us that freedom is a promise that must be lived out, together.
We walk alongside neighbors from every background, and we're grateful for the strength, culture, and resilience of the Black community, which is woven into the fabric of East Orange County. Today, we celebrate and we recommit.
Happy Juneteenth.

When the heat index hits 103°F, Orange County cooling centers open 🌞🌡️

It is projected that a heat index of 103 degrees or higher will persist throughout the weekend, climbing as high as 107 degrees on some days.

Zeynep, our Executive Director, and Nelly, our Employment Specialist, just got back from a few days in Chicago. They were learning alongside other workforce development initiatives at Cara Chicago.

Zeynep said one moment in particular is still sticking with her: the mirror exercise. You stand there looking at your own reflection, being reminded you that you are not your past mistakes. You are not what people have said about you. You are not how the world decided to label you.

We couldn't stop thinking about our neighbors here at Samaritan Resource Center. How many of them have been told the opposite for years?

It's part of why our workforce development program, SRC Community Cares, exists. We hire our own clients for community cleaning work. They get real paychecks and job experience. It gives further proof that the people we serve aren't just receiving help, but they're giving back to this community, too.

We know that a job doesn't fix everything. But it does give someone routine, confidence, and belonging.

Thank you to the Kelly Family Cuidiu Foundation at Central Florida Foundation for making this incredible opportunity happen for us!!

We are so grateful to Action Church for coming out last Saturday to refill our stock of bottled water, and help us sort donations. Your work is directly helping those experiencing homelessness in East Orange County, getting them much needed supplies and the support they need. Thank you!!

Meet Frankie. 💛
A father who never stopped fighting for his daughter — even when the road ahead looked uncertain.
Frankie faced more than most, but he held on to hope and kept walking forward, one step at a time. Through perseverance, courage, and a community that walked alongside him, he found more than just a house — he found a home where his daughter can grow, feel safe, and belong.
This is what it looks like when a neighbor refuses to give up.
We are so proud of you, Frankie. Your story is a reminder that stability is possible, that restoration is real, and that love for a child is one of the most powerful forces there is.
To everyone still in the middle of their journey, Frankie's story is for you. 🏠✨

What does it look like when housing works? At Samaritan Resource Center, 62% of neighbors in our bridge housing programs move into permanent housing. The national average is 18%.
That number doesn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of walking alongside each neighbor with individualized case management, a network of resources, and the deep conviction that every person has the capacity to flourish when they are genuinely supported.
Since starting our family bridge housing program in April 2024, SRC has been the only agency in our area offering this specifically for families, filling a gap no other local organization covers. That’s part of the reason why our program has been so successful— other area agencies are able to refer to us if their own grant requirements prevent them from helping.
The momentum is real: 648 neighbors secured housing through SRC’s programs in 2025. Since January 2026, 515 more have found a place to call home. 🏡
Huge shoutout to Laura and Mercedes, our housing navigators at SRC! They are the top two housing navigators in Orange County according to Housing Connector, one of the systems for tracking this important work. ✨

Samaritan Resource Center is at AdventHealth’s Community Health Improvement Expo today!! What a great way to share community resources with AdventHealth workers, so they better know what resources are available in their community for those they serve.

“Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.” - Matthew 5:7

Let us learn from The Beatitudes. They show us that true happiness does not come from those things of this world. Instead, they guide us towards a promise of love to which we should seek to live by.
