When she’s not sniffing out drugs… she’s raising money for NAMI Central Florida! Congratulations to K9 Millie for being named our “Top Dog” fundraiser for this year’s NAMIWalks.🧠🥏

Millie was rewarded with a KONG Flyer Frisbee as a token of appreciation for her $250 raised. Thank you to all the members of our department, and K9 Unit, who helped us hit our goal of $1,505 raised for the mission to bring free, local mental health programs, classes and support services to our community.

Congratulations to Lieutenant Andersen for graduating from the 28th Senior Leadership Program Class at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) earlier this month.👏

The Florida Criminal Justice Institute graduated 33 students from this class, and our very own Lieutenant Andersen was among the graduates. The graduates represented 27 criminal justice agencies across the state and participated in seven week-long classes preparing Florida’s criminal justice leadership for the challenging and changing demands of the future. Class participants studied trends and events that will challenge criminal justice professionals in the coming years.

Thank you, Lieutenant Andersen, for your continued commitment toward bettering yourself and our department.

Meet our June Super Star… Classification Unit Supervisor Patrick!⭐️

While driving on I-4, she saw a pickup truck on fire on the shoulder. She immediately pulled over to assist and discovered a man was still inside the vehicle—trying to retrieve personal belongings from the burning vehicle. She contacted 911 and remained on scene to provide first responders with an accurate account of the incident.

Her commitment extended beyond the emergency. Recognizing the citizen’s phone was damaged and unusable, she took the initiative to contact his family and personally transported him approximately 30 minutes to reunite him with his children after his vehicle was deemed a total loss.

Her nominator wrote, “She truly exemplifies going above and beyond both on and off duty and embodies OCCD’s mission of serving our community.”

Patrick started her career at OCCD as a Correctional Officer at Central Booking in July 2006. She also worked at BRC Detention until she was promoted to Classification Officer in September 2008. She was promoted again to her current position as Unit Supervisor in Classification in December 2017. Her favorite part of her role is keeping everyone safe, employees and inmates alike, by going above and beyond each day. Every day through her role in classification, she gets to interact with a variety of divisions to ensure inmates are classified appropriately, ensuring the safety of our entire community.

Congratulations on being honored as June’s Super Star. Thank you for your work to keep our community safe both inside and outside of our jail.

We are excited to share that OCCD has been recommended for ACA reaccreditation after a comprehensive audit—maintaining the “gold standard” in the Corrections field, earning 100% compliance in all mandatory standards.🏆

The three-day audit evaluated hundreds of strict standards including security, healthcare and inmate programming. Auditors examined administrative records, operational logs and department policies. OCCD will take the final step in the reaccreditation process by going before a panel for a formal hearing with the Commission on Accreditation for Corrections later this Summer.

This achievement reflects our ongoing commitment to serving our community through excellence, integrity and innovation. Reaccreditation relies heavily on the hard work of staff across all levels. Thank you for your dedication in maintaining the excellence of our department.👏

Earlier this month, members of our Honor Guard Unit represented Orange County Corrections at the 2026 Fraternal Order of Police 44th Annual Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial Service in Tallahassee.

We stood with agencies and community members from across the state to honor those who gave everything in their service to others. We were grateful to attend this state memorial service and continue to honor the memory of our fallen officers each day.
